SEGA: We were the first third-party publisher to believe in Wii

March 10th, 2009 Posted in News, Posted by Valay, Wii

With high-quality titles such as The Conduit, MadWorld, and House of the Dead: Overkill, there’s no doubt that SEGA is one of the standout third-party publishers on the Wii. The company has provided the system with undeniable support. SEGA of America President Simon Jeffrey is claiming, however, that SEGA was the first third-party publisher to believe in the Wii.

“Sega was the first third-party publisher to believe in the Wii. (We) tap into the same market that Nintendo opened. We understood Nintendo’s premise of attracting casual gamers. [We estimate that] 70 to 80 percent of Wii owners are young males, and there hasn’t been much fodder for them on the Wii.” – SEGA of America President Simon Jeffery

Well they were the first to cater to a different type of audience I will give them that! N ow hopefully the stay with core games and stop with things like Sonic for a while.

Sega is really sticking they’re neck out there so if these games fail they are taking full blame for that. I really don’t think they will but I would love to see what first week sales are for MadWorld. I think The Conduit is going to be a million seller. Games like these will get The Wii out of a stereo type as a family oriented system. Hopefully Nintendo hasn’t forgotten that their loyal fans have all grown up and are ready for some adult action. Some of us still like Mario and some of us have grown out of Mario and into more adult oriented games. Good job Sega! I’m sure it will be worth it in the long haul.

It is funny though because they just publish all these core games now that I think about it, they arent the ones actually making them.

Sega was the one who approached head strong games about doing hotd overkill and they believed in platinum games to cosign as the publisher for madworld and the same thing with the conduit. That’s still pretty huge.

I don’t see apoblem with it ,but it makes you think what is Sega really making recently on their own that’s worthwhile, Lets Tap? We know Sonic is a waste of time, so what else is Sega doing?

Excellent question Anthony. The answer I expect is look forward to E3 and other game shows. After Overkill,Madworld, and Conduit, it’s gonna have to be big.

I don’t know about Let’s tap. Could be fun but I’m not really into that kind of stuff. Sonic games are pitiful. Have been for awhile. Take a couple years, look at what worked, what didn’t, and make something worthwhile. Stop whoring the one reason you weren’t crushed in the console war back in the 90′s(sorry Genesis fans).

you guys are right sega does not make the games. I hoep they sell well. I can’t wait for E3. how many people are getting some of the games in sega’s litter of games (HOFTD:OK the conduit or madworld)

As the title suggests Sega said they are the first third party publisher to support the Wii which is true. They never said anything about making games themselves for the Wii.

I have Overkill and it’s just as good as it looks(if you can put up with the guy that drops F bombs every 2 seconds), Madworld and Conduit look almost too good to be true. I really can’t wait to see what they have for November or December.

To bad none of those games will sell, Sega will be bankrupt within the year.

How do you figure Gaga, with games like Yakuza 3;Phantasy Star Portable;HotD:Overkill;MadWorld and The Conduit all highly anticipated quality games. The only mistake Sega made was Sonic & The Black Knight.

Anyone who thinks Sega are going to go bankrupt has little – to – no knowledge of the gaming industry whatsoever. Yakuza 3 was a rampant success in Japan and wether the fanboys want to admit it or not, Sonic Unleashed was a huge success worldwide.

Sega are making a ton of profit on software, saying Sega are gong bankrupt would be like saying Sony are going to bankrupt – you’d have to have learning difficulties to seriously believe such a thing.
