GameCube era made Miyamoto “very sad”

March 11th, 2009 Posted in GameCube, General Nintendo, News, Posted by Valay

“There was an era when Nintendo was going in the direction of doing the same things other companies did. The more we competed with new companies entering the market, the more we started acting similar to them. But is being number one in that competition the same as being number one with the general public? That’s the question we had. Entertainment is something that you have to look at the world with a very wide eye as you create it. I always thought that, but there were a few years where I was unable to get off other people’s trends. It was a dilemma in my mind.

I was endlessly fascinated with 3D worlds, but what with all the issues I had to tinker with in terms of rendering and processing speed, it got to the point where I didn’t know who was making the games any longer.

This is a job where you have a plan and you polish it endlessly while getting help from others. If Nintendo’s games fail to stand out as games that aren’t made that way proliferate, then it shows that the creation process is for nothing, which made me very sad. That was especially obvious during the GameCube era; Nintendo titles were hardly even discussed by the [non-gaming] general public back then.” – Shigeru Miyamoto

The GameCube era wasn’t actually too terrible in terms of quality content and innovation. Chibi Robo, Geist, and Pikmin were all created during that the console’s lifecycle. In terms of originality, we haven’t seen too many cult classics from Nintendo like we did during the GameCube era.

The gamecube era made me ad too with the lack of third party support

I can see his point though, all the systems had the same games so it was generic and boring, so its good 2 see things have changed at least with the Wii.

i dont think the GC was that bad but there were alot of multiplatform generic games that were disapointing :(

i think the wii really helped nintendo bounce back :D

yeah, you could definitely tell GC was more focused on the power when nintendo showed all those videos like 128 mario, so they and their competitors where all aiming for the same stuff. minus the controllers and the 1st and 2nd party.

I still think the GC era was a great time to be a Nintendo fan. Fire Emblem, Eternal Darkness, Pikmin, F-Zero, Donkey Konga and Jungle Beat, Wario Ware, Wind Waker, Melee, I could go on and on. It’s too bad Shiggy Moto feels sad about the ‘cube.

As far as originality goes has anyone out there ever played a game that screwed with you the gamer more than Eternal Darkness?

Yeah, Miyamoto made good reasons there I do admit! last paragraph in his statement made the most sense for anyone to reconize!

Yet I also miss playing the Cube; but I’ve never abandomed it. Kind of have anyway since I love the Wii and play it a hundred times more! :)

Theres just something more cooler than playing with a Wii Remote than playing traditionally with a regular controller like the Cube one!

Yet I’ve been replaying Zelda Wind Waker as of now this March 09; because I replay my favorite Zelda games from time to time for the fun of it, and if I haven’t played it in a good long while, or a short monthly perioid!

Last time I payed attention to my poor ol Cube was back in 2005; & I got it back in X-Mas 2003! The most I played was Soul Calibur 2, Zelda WW, Zelda Collection Edition, Mario Sunshine, & Melee… mostly with my cousin who sometimes visits!

The Cube was a great system, it was just not pushed to its limits by third parties “Capcom excluded” and that was its downfall, It needed exclusives and rarely got em !

The only 2 games I can really think that pushed Gamecube were Resident Evil 4 and LOZ Twilight Princess, which are both now Wii games as well!
