Dead Space Wii team wants to “push the boundaries” of mature games on Wii
March 20th, 2009 Posted in News, Posted by Valay, WiiThough quite a number of people were disappointed with the announcement that Dead Space: Extraction would be an on-rails shooter, it’s clear that the development team is trying to bring a unique product that to the Wii. Based on that alone, fans should definitely be excited about this game. There’s also some great news for those who have high expectations: The Extraction team’s goal is to “push the boundaries” of mature games on Wii.
“Bringing Dead Space: Extraction to the Wii means delivering on a mature and hard-edged title for Wii gamers. At this moment there are some very cool games already on the Wii that are in that mature space but our goal is to push the boundaries of what a mature game on the Wii means.” – Steve Papoutsis, producer of Dead Space: Extraction
Recently, Mr. Papoutsis additionally spoke about the decision to not implement Wii MotionPlus and discussed how the game will take advantage of the Wii’s control set up.
“Given our gameplay we are not currently planning on using the MotionPlus add-on. I think that the technology has a great deal of potential but with our aiming mechanic the existing precision achievable with the Wii Remote works great as it is.”
“We are using a frenetic first person perspective, so all shooting and dismemberment is handled by aiming the Wii Remote and firing at the Necromorphs in the game. In addition to shooting, our Telekinesis and Stasis mechanics are also handled in a similar way. We have gone to great lengths to make sure the controls feels natural for the Wii and are trying to avoid any unnecessary gestures that do not make sense in the Dead Space universe.”
