2D Boy talks World of Goo sales, development costs
March 23rd, 2009 Posted in News, Posted by Valay, WiiWorld of Goo has been one of the standout WiiWare titles. Not only is it a fantastic game, but it has also topped the weekly charts on Nintendo’s downloadable service for weeks. At GDC today, co-creator of World of Goo Rob Carmel (2D Boy) chatted about the costs and profits of the game’s development.
In two years, $96,000 was spent in addition to the costs of investments – $1,000 on software, $4,000 on hardware, $5,000 for localization, $5,000 for legal fees, and another $5,000 on QA testing. As far as sales of World of Goo goes, in 2008, 60% of all sales can be attributed to WiiWare, 25% came from the website, and 3% resulted from retail.
