Details on Nintendo’s presence at GDC – New game announcements coming

March 24th, 2009 Posted in DS, News, Posted by Valay, Wii

Update: Added some more details – looks like Iwata will be announcing quite a few titles tomorrow (Thanks for the news tip, Jake)

Some information regarding Nintendo’s presence at GDC are available, including new game announcements, thanks to the IGN Nintendo Team (and 1UP). On the latest Nintendo Voice Chat podcast, it was stated that Punch-Out will finally be playable on the showfloor. Impressions of the game will be available sometime this week. The DSi and Excitebots: Trick Racing are likely to be at the event as well and the DSi itself is sure to be a focal point of Satoru Iwata’s hour-long speech. Strangely, members of the press will only be allowed to film the first five minutes of Mr. Iwata’s speech.

Update below comes from 1UP’s Sam Kennedy…

“I’d say Nintendo’s Iwata keynote is the one that you’ll really want to watch (Jeremy will be live blogging it tomorrow morning). I thought he was just going to be talking about Motion Plus and DSi, but it turns out he’s going to be announcing quite a few new games — for Wii, Wiiware, and Virtual Console (and this won’t just be Nintendo titles, but also third party stuff). I’ve already heard about a few of them (including one that makes me all giddy…I can’t wait for tomorrow now).”

Nintendo has given us the joy of living in Mario and Links worlds for years now. The last best Zelda release was The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and the last BEST of ALL TIME Mario game was Super Mario Galaxy and that’s what I call the best of both worlds.

Hopefully Iwata will discuss the future of the new WiiSpeak and wether or not it will be compatible with the DSi and I also hope that he will talk about the confirmed sequel to Super Mario Galaxy.

Perhaps the next Zelda game will be the third in the ongoing “wind waker” story. Phantom Hourglass was a direct sequel to The Wind Waker and a third game in that setting would make it a trilogy and we’ve always known that “a third one’s a charm”.

I for one hope that a Phantom Hourglass sequel come to the DSi. I also hope that a The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker New Play Control! will be announced for the Wii.

Perhaps a Zelda game similar to Super Mario Galaxy will be released to the Wii.

I’m actually not expecting TOO much.

DSi will probably be big at the event. GBA/GC games will be discussed if it really is happening. Iwata will also probably talk about Punch-Out and Excitebots. And perhaps Wii MotionPlus.

I think Iwata will save Zelda – if it’s being showed this year – for E3.

Anyway, hopefully we’ll get some nice tidbits tomorrow!

I’m with Valay on this one as well… I keep stating the OBVIOIUS ALL OF THE FREAKING TIME THAT THERE WILL BE NONE UNTIL NOA OR NOJ ARE READY!!!

So as long as the RUMORS & SPECULATION is HALTED and things are OFFICIALLY COMFIRMED from Saturo Itawa & NOA or NOJ… then I would least expect a DSi VC or GB games, some Balance Board support for Punch-Out Wii if true or not; and also maybe why Motion Plus is taking so long?! ;)

Also VC or WiiWare announcements, if they do any or not, (its nothing to be dissapointed if they do anyway); but I’m seriously hoping they COMFIRM SSB64 for the VC on APRIL 27TH & SUPER PUNCH-OUT BY MAY 18TH!!! :D
