MadWorld sales not too important to Capcom
April 2nd, 2009 Posted in News, Posted by Valay, WiiIt’s not exactly a secret that publishers are watching the sales of hardcore Wii games. For Capcom, however, the sales of MadWorld are not too important.
“I think Wii fans look at it that way [MadWorld sales as a barometer], us, probably not as much as you guys. I hope it does well though. Success would be if it’s profitable for Sega. Given that I’m not sure what their production and marketing budgets were, I’d prefer to not hazard a guess…” – Christian Svensson, Corporate Officer/VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development
Even though Capcom isn’t really focusing on the sales of MadWorld, we know that there are other third-party companies out there that are. Hopefully the sales of the game are at least halfway decent…Otherwise, hardcore Wii owners could be in trouble.

Agreed PsiWren. And dereq if keep doing the same things over and over in Madworld yeah it’s REALLY boring. To really get into that game you HAVE to explore the environment. If you stay in the same place punching and using your chainsaw all the time you’ll never the points to move on. The environments are big and there’s plenty of ways to keep the game fun. You just need to find them. Going from point A to B does not work there. Experiment with the levels and have fun.

I know I’m in the minority here, but MadWorld is a terrible game. I bought it the day it came out and got tired of it after about an hour. This game is the definition of style over substance. And I am a huge fan of beat-em-ups!! There are way too few moves, and the AI is borderline braindead. I’m surprised at the high marks it’s been getting across the board. Methinks it’s wishful thinking ’cause of its third party status.

I’m not really into fighing games much myself, but I couldn’t resist sending in a comment on this.
No matter how you feel about this game, people that want more action/fighter/violent-content games on the Wii need to be getting this. And, I mean buying it, not pirating it.
Don’t ever forget, that as much as they may make games for particular audiences, at the baseline, they are still companies and businesses. If they don’t see a market for these games, if they can’t make any kind of profit with certain genres, they probably won’t bother making them period.
Developers have (finally) only just started to feel things out and really make that type of game for the console. You can get picky about things later on, when there’s a firm foothold for this kind of game on the Wii, and more companies making them. At this point, when they are starting to really create the more “M”/violent content/hardcore stuff, they need to be ENcouraged, not DIScouraged.

Nah I’m not believing this too much, they are deff looking at this as well as the other core games recently released, that’s how they can judge he market, and see what the want to invest in, and how much sales 2 expect themselves ! They might not focus completely on this but its still a focus point.

If one’s definition of hardcore is blood, guts, gore, swearing, etc then yes the success of those kind of hardcore titles rests of madworld’s shoulders. However my definition of hardcore is a solid gameplay experience that is every bit as fun as the first playthrough. Guess what? Nintendo are the masters of making these types of games. Unless you sat and played Metroid Prime 3 thru all of its difficulties then you can always go back and play it in hypermode. As long there’s Nintendo the hardcore wii owners are safe. Ps brawl and mario Kart in 2008 was awesome. Infinite replay value. Always fresh, always fun

PsiWren’s argument is fundamentally flawed. No one should be expected to buy a game they do not want, or that is sub-par, in the hopes of future releases being better. Is there even a point to producing hardcore Wii games if they are all terrible, which they will continue to be if consumers send the message that they are willing to throw money at unsatisfying game?

Dereq you must have some life crippling ADD if you get tired of a game in a hour. There is a lot more to MadWorld than tire + signpost + rose bushes. If you can get nothing but super or ultra violent kills and are still not satisfied…then come back and complain. It progressively gets harder after Asian town and I think once you beat it the difficulty steps up.
