GTA: Chinatown Wars, MadWorld bomb in market debuts

April 16th, 2009 Posted in DS, News, Posted by Valay, Wii

Initial NPD sales data reports are in for two hardcore Nintendo titles: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars and MadWorld. Unfortunately, neither title seemed to have sold particularly well. Analysts were predicting a fairly huge month for Chinatown Wars, anticipating up to 450,000  units sold. In actuality, the game’s true performance was the complete opposite. GTA on the DS managed to move an estimated 88,704 copies. More disappointing news comes from the first sales data numbers on the ultra hardcore Wii title MadWorld. The title apparently sold less than 70,000 units. While NPD accounts for sales only in North America, it will be interesting to see how third-parties react to both of these latest figures.

call of duty only sold 45,000 units at first and just passed the million mark. Give these games time. Thats how nintendo platforms have always worked.

Seriously, what did you guys expect? Everyone knows gamers don’t own a Nintendo, not since the early 90′s anyway.

Only kids and grandparents own it and the numbers prove it. Sorry if I sound close minded but in my opinion Nintendo almost destroyed our gaming culture.

This is getting to be BS, either these numbers aren’t accurate or people aren’t buying games that they are pleading for, something just isn’t right anymore, if anyone claims to be a core gamer and doesn’t purchase titles like these then something is seriously wrong, I have both, and they are both good games, GTA is excellent actually, these games need word of mouth also so people go out buy them and spread the word, I got my friend to buy GTA yesterday !

I’d consider myself a gamer and I own a Wii and a DS. Can’t say I’m a kid or a grandparent, I just bought GTA in fact.

Well it actually looks really good when u play it so don’t judge its looks till you do, and R4 is the exact reason these games aren’t selling, u aren’t helping the problem ur making it worse by supporting that thing, oh and btw GTA has a block in it so it can’t be used on an R4, so good luck getting around that !

Dave, I meant generally speaking. Yeah you bought it and so did a ‘few’ thousand other people. The fact remains, if the majority of people who owned Wiis and DSs were hardcore gamers, the number would have reflected it. Not saying there aren’t but the numbers say otherwise.
Look how fast Wii fit and titles beginning with “Party” do vs these 2 titles.

Why do people keep confusing “hardcore” gamers with games that are rated M? The problem is that developers are going out of their way to make games with adult content, but that’s not what adults really want. Sure chainsawing up guys into bloody spikes sounds fun if you’re twelve, but it’s not what most people who have grown up want to play. It’s not a matter of being casual, its a matter of not wanting to support excessive violence and language. I hate when a good game, or even a good movie, is ruined by all the characters saying f*** every other word. Show some class, people!

man….com’on guys, im sorry, but if the conduit don’t sell well, then i think we,wii owners, are going to be in trouble.

Well ur right when u say blood, violence and cursing make a game rated mature, which u say doesn’t make them core, but core players always say they want adult games, which would include mature rated games, and anyway, mature rated games sell very well on other systems that’s the problem, they aren’t being sold equally on Wii !
