“Technically possible” to bring Skype to the DSi
April 20th, 2009 Posted in DS, News, Posted by Valay“Skype’s growth strategy is focused on product enhancements that will increase user delight, engagement, and adoption of paid services. This includes extending the Skype infrastructure and platform to bring Skype functionality wherever, whenever, and on whatever device or site people choose to use it. Skype is extending its lead with a focus on rapid innovation, which delivers the new features and products people want, and by integrating Skype software and services into other open platforms with recent examples including the Skype application for the iPhone and iPod Touch, Intel-based MIDs, Nokia N97, and a Lite version of Skype for Java-enabled mobile phones. Whilst we can’t comment on any future plans to bring Skype to Nintendo’s DSi, it would technically be possible.” – Skype rep
I think it’s more than possible that we’ll see Skype on the DSi sometime in the future. Satoru Iwata has said in the past he wouldn’t mind giving the DS a phone if users would not be forced into paying fees. Skype may very well be the perfect way to accomplish that.

I hope this happens that would be so cool, i would for sure get it, even if it cost DSi points.

I really hope that Skype will be made available in the DSi Shop so people can use it. I know that I for one would make good use of Skype on my DSi.
The only questions that I have are: Will we need a firmware update to use it? And will need to buy the Nintendo DS headset or will the built-in microphone be all that is needed?
