GoldenEye may never see a VC release

May 13th, 2009 Posted in News, Posted by Valay, Wii

GoldenEye 007 is one of the most revered Nintendo 64 classics. Many Wii owners would love to see the game hit the VC service, there’s a good chance that may never happen. Martin Hollis admitted to the Official Nintendo Magazine that legal issues could prevent 007 from arriving on the Wii Shop Channel.

“There’s always someone with some exclusivity agreement, so there’s lots of lawyers… I’m not going to hold my breath. I’d love it to happen, but I can’t see it.”

Good, yes, very good. Now people will have to play it the natural way, on an N64. (0r an N64 emulator)

All Nintendos fault too. Microsoft already has a working version for the XBOX Arcade but Nintendo would not allow it. Now Rare can say the same to Nintendo about publishing it for the VC. Microsoft who owns Rare now was fine with a VC release and a arcade release. All I can say is Nintendo was foolish to argue this both XBOX and Wii owners could be enjoying this game to bad Nintendo screwed it up for all of us.

How is playing it on an N64 emulator more natural than playing it on the Wii’s VC emulator?

How is it Nintendo’s fault JumpMan? why would you want your competitor to release a game that has everyone hoping to be released, release from your competitor? xbox would probably make more sales and be better off, thats just business.

If you think it’s about who beats who in sales, you’re missing true buisness. Buisness is about making money. So if Nintendo makes 10k off of Goldeneye when Microsoft makes 30k. Don’t you think a buisness man would see that 10k is better than 0? Help the industry help themselves. Don’t be selfish and let’s play games. That’s what we’re here for!

Seriously. Nintendo really screwed this up. It’s bad enough we keep hearing “hardcore games are coming” and never seeing any, but to mess this up bc they know everybody will get the 360 version over theirs is just childish. Especially since Microsoft was (amazingly) willing to pay a fee to Nintendo so Nintendo would be getting even more money. Nintendo has gone the way of the casual market and is no longer a core gaming company. I’m glad 3rd party companies make games, bc if it wasn’t for No More Heroes 2 coming out my wii would be in the trash by now.

What you all fail to realise is that it is far more complicated than just Nintendo and MS. Activision hold the game licenses for James Bond now, and Sony also have a stake in the franchise, although that is on the movies mainly, but I’m sure they would have something to say about the game now too considering its success.

So it can be tricky to get an agreement between all the parties involved, so don’t be so quick to jump on Nintendo (or MS’s) case about this.
