4 Wii games Nintendo may unveil at E3
May 24th, 2009 Posted in Features, Posted by Valay, WiiNintendo’s E3 2008 conference was…Well…Terrible, but that’s nothing more than a horrific memory at this point. There are greener pastures ahead with promises that this year will be shifted towards a more serious focus on software. Nintendo has made some rather audacious comments about their upcoming E3 conference, including that titles shown will help the Wii to surpass the sales of the PlayStation 2. Just which games might the company unveil at E3? We take a look at the most likely candidates below.
Super Mario Galaxy 2/New Mario Adventure
At last year’s E3, Satoru Iwata revealed that both the Mario and Zelda teams were working hard on new projects. One would think that, because the Mario group is busy, a new game featuring the famous plumber is on the way. Super Mario Galaxy proved that gravity is an innovative and downright fun concept to mess around with, so the only question is if Nintendo will build off of Super Mario Galaxy or start fresh. Keep in mind, however, that the next Mario game will be announced only if its progress is far along enough to show to the public. Since Galaxy released in 2007, Nintendo may not be ready to showcase its next Mario title. In actuality, Zelda Wii may be more of a realistic game to expose, considering that it has probably has been in the works for a longer period of time.
Zelda Wii
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks will surely be Nintendo’s big Link blowout at E3 this year, but a small trailer or teaser for the next entry on Nintendo’s console wouldn’t hurt, right? It has been almost two and a half years since a Zelda game released on the Wii and it’s no secret that Twilight Princess is a GameCube title at heart. Shigeru Miyamoto has been quoted as saying that Twilight Princess is the last Zelda game “as we know it,” but one would think that the upcoming adventure is far along enough so that something could be released, even if it’s nothing more than a screenshot. In most recent years, console Zeldas seem to release every three to four years. So would Nintendo be willing to pull back on the curtain on their Wii project and perhaps launch the game in 2010? Or will the company save the game for a future event? Perhaps if we’re lucky enough, Miyamoto will rush onto the stage in a full-fledged Link costume in a reprise of his stunt from 2004.
Kid Icarus
Pit’s supposed return on the Wii has been a complete rollercoaster, filled with uncertainty and endless loops. Not only has the actual development of the game been questioned on numerous occasions, but the game’s rumored developer, Factor 5, has been facing its fair share of internal issues. Most recently, the company shut down their San Rafael studio. There have also been some murmurs coming out of E3 2008 that Nintendo not only had intentions of announcing the game at their media briefing, though additionally planned on releasing the title later that year. As you might have guessed, the problems Factor 5 encountered allegedly prevented anything from happening. It’s been a full year since then, however, and the company may have had enough time to right its ship. Who knows – It’s possible that we could finally see the game at Nintendo’s conference in just a few days.
Pikmin 3
“We’re making Pikmin.” Those simple words may have saved Nintendo’s presence at E3 last year. After an abysmal and boring press conference, the only piece of information hardcore gamers could latch on to was Shigeru Miyamto’s statement that a new Pikmin was in development. The “New Play Control!” line has aided Nintendo in introducing the franchise to novice gamers. Additionally, the Wiimote has already proven that IR pointer functionality can drastically enhance the Pikmin experience and therefore will allow the newest title to build upon the foundation set by the GameCube remakes. EDGE has been rumored to be teasing Pikmin 3 for their next issue which is right around the time when E3 begins. This fact, along with a few other signs, seems to strongly indicate that Pikmin 3 will take center stage at Nintendo’s conference.

I’m counting on Pikmin, Star Fox, and Fzero. Mario and Zelda maybe in trailer form.

No need for hate. But you really don’t want a completely new Zelda, maxguy?

Zelda defintely-Twilight Princess was finished in 2005 but was delayed for the Wiis Release-Hence the new Wii zelda has been in development for about 3 years!
Kid Icurus PLZ!.
Mario No way-there is only 1 Mario Jump and Run game per Gen since the SNES!
BUT there must be something from Retro Studios?
What are THEY up to?
Or are they doing Kid Icurus?
Or even a new Donkey Kong jump and run game?(the last one was DK64 from (the then) brilliant Rare!)

It would make me very happy if they were to announce all of these. But I shouldn`t dream so much.

I still don’t understand why people keep saying that Nintendo’s E3 2008 was so bad. They announced Wii Fit, and that’s the third best selling Wii game as of this writing. That’s not so bad, eh?
Some people will always find something to whine about.

Actually, Wii Music was announced at E3 2007.
But anyway, it was mainly that Nintendo’s big game for the hardcore was…Animal Crossing. While that’s a neat title and all, gamers were expecting a bit more. I mean, they chose Wii Music to close out their conference, focused on unimportant third-parties for too long, ignored the DS…And well, I could go on.
But that’s basically why people had such a big problem with last year’s conference.

Twilight princess was a gamecube game. IMO , the wii version was the first of the “new play control” series. Its great and all, but the wii needs its own zelda game. We already got a wii mario, where is the original made for wii zelda? I doubt we will see it this year and I bet it will be because of the motion plus. Everyone is going to expect it to be used in the next zelda title. I think next e3 they will show one, not this time though.

@Valay
You forget, they also announced Chinatown Wars at E3 2008.

I want to see a new Donkey Kong Country. I would like to see it go back to 2D but with really great sprites and have it go back to the original and be a side-scroller.
Duck Hunt I have wanted to see for a long time. Now is the time for a new one. May be even Balloon Fight could be put into the game too.
Ice Climbers have been in the last few Super Smash Brothers games and so I would like to see a new Ice Climbers. Same thing as DKC 2D and maybe it could be a WiiWare game.
I want a new Space Sim Star Fox game and throw in as an added bonus Star Fox 2. The game is finished why not release it.
Metroid I want to see a high 2D version of that game again. Side-scroller again. I am not sure if any one has seen the 2D version that a fanboy made on Neogaf but if you have I would love to see Metroid like that.
Mother (Earthbond) series come out in the US. You could remake the first one too and I would buy that also.
A new StarTropics NEEDS to happen.
A Wario’s Woods WiiWare game could be great fun.
I want a new Pilotwings.
A new Mario Paint I could see being great fun and will sell loads too.
I want to see a new Wario World game or better yet a new Wario Land game.
Seeing as Square-Enix and Nintendo are friends again I would so LOVE a new Super Mario RPG.
1080° Snowboarding and a new Wave Race would also be Awesome.
A Luigi’s Mansion 2 that is for the Wii would be tons of sweet fun.
Geist 2 I so want.
A Golden Sun for the Wii.
These are the games I so want Nintendo to show for the WII and DS. If even 1 forth of these games Sony and Microsoft together showed would lose E3. So if Nintendo said all of these games are getting sequels or remakes I would not know what to do.
I so can’t wait until E3 because it is so going to be Great.

I am betting on a new Zelda title. A new SMG would be cool too, considering the tradition of numerous Mario games on NES and SNES (Mario platform games) have been left behind since N64. Why can’t we have a 3D sequel? Bring it please Nintendo. Also, who gives a crap about Kid Icarus? Bring us some new Mario Kart Wii DLC including nwe tracks and the ability for your online guest to accumulate points. That’s what we want Nintendo. That or Earthbound. HA!

Oh yeah and I want a new PilotWings too, Joe. Right F*ing now!
