Ueda “expected a little more” out of Super Mario Galaxy
July 6th, 2009 Posted in News, Posted by Valay, WiiShadow of the Colossus and Ico director Fumito Ueda was interviewed in a recent edition of Level magazine. In the interview, one subject discussed is Ueda’s opinion on Super Mario Galaxy. Apparently there is one level in the game that some members of the press and even fans claimed had borrowed from Shadow of the Colossus. However, Ueda believes that too big a deal was made out of it. Speaking about Mario Galaxy in general though, he thinks that the title “wasn’t as entertaining as it could have been” and that he “expected a little more.”
“Of course I have played it, I couldn’t resist after hearing that Miyamoto-san was inspired by me. But I have to say that I had expected a little more. That particular level (and the rest of the game) wasn’t as entertaining as it could have been. I think the press and the fans made too much of a fuss about him (Miyamoto) borrowing from me. And the atmosphere on the internet became a little heavy. What I’m critical against isn’t the fact that they borrowed something that actually isn’t even originally from me, but the fact that they didn’t make anything more interesting out of it.”

I had expected a little more out of Shadow of the Colossus. That particular level (and the rest of the game) wasn’t as entertaining as it could have been. I think the press and the fans made too much of a fuss about him (Ueda) borrowing from me.
In all seriousness though, what was he expecting from a rookie studio? It was Nintendo EAD Tokyo’s second complete game. That and Shigeru Miyamoto said he spent more time with Wii Fit than Super Mario Galaxy.
For me, Shadow of the Colossus was a whole lot of nothing. Once I got to the fourth colossus and that booming voice told me to shoot it, I already knew there was only going to be one ending. I refused, ejected the game and sold it. Watched the ending on Youtube. I was right. Saved me ten to twenty hours and forty bucks.

Edit (wished there was an edit button): Once I got to the fifth colossus and that booming voice told me to shoot it, I already knew it could only end one way.
I meant Fifth Colossus. See? Forgettable.

I know that there were a good amount of people that were disappointed with Shadow of Colossus, and I think they have every reason to. I still respect the game, though.

Funny he expected more out of 1 of the highest rated games this generation !!! Actually this is probably the highest rated game on a single console, not multiplatform !!!!
