Miyamoto: Zelda needs to be “accessible” for casual gamers
July 17th, 2008 Posted in News, Posted by Valay, WiiShigeru Miyamoto only recently made a remark that E3 is no longer a place to introduce new games for the core gamer. Additionally, it has been discovered that the legendary video game mastermind provided a response about making franchises such as Zelda and Mario more accessible. Unfortunately, it looks like those who have been hoping that the next Zelda would ramp up the difficulty won’t find the next Zelda game to be any tougher. If anything, the next Zelda title could be even less hardcore than we’re accustomed to. “Frankly, some of the so-called ‘franchise games’ are quite difficult for nongamers to play, so making accessible games for these players is key. With Zelda, we have to consider how to make it accessible for new gamers to pick up and play and enjoy just as hardcore gamers have. For example, we’ve got the Touch Generations series. Now, we’re not necessarily going to make our “franchise” games in that style, but we’ll take what we know and have learned — the philosophy behind those games — and incorporate it into franchise games. That’s a philosophy that’s very strong at Nintendo.”

Man, f*** casual gamers. What about the hardcore gamers who have stuck with you since the beginning. Don’t you think Nintendo has made enough casual games already? I want the next Zelda to have tougher bosses, harder puzzles. I don’t want another fuckin pussy LoZ.
Nintendo has been screwin us hardcore gamers over ever since the wii came out. They don’t care about us. They would be nothing without us gamers who’ve been with them throughout the years.
Now that they don’t need us anymore, they’re making all of the games casual jsut so they can make more money. I grew up playing Nintendo and this is what they do to me.

Great. Because everybody knows we need another Wind Waker. Great gameplay and art style, but too fucking easy.
To make things even better, Wind Waker was PERFECT for ‘casual gamers’, seeing as the long boat rides gave them a way to do no work at all and feel like they were accomplishing something.

UMMMMMMM. These are Nintendo fanboys dumbass. They know damn well what they want and this isn’t it, despite promises for hardcore games. Why don’t you go the f*** away if you’re some casual asshat who’ll finally be able to beat a LoZ game.
By Kylethedarkn on Jul 18, 2008
f***!!!!
Ok wtf here? what about LoZ for the nes that was the first one and it was hard as f***. So if a hard game like that can attract new gamers why shouldn’t the newer zeldas be hard. I swear if the next Zelda is some casual gaming piece of shit, i’m sending miyamoto a pipe bomb in the mail.
By bobsaget on Jul 18, 2008
Wow Nintendo, you obviously should just quit making games because nobody is going to be buying your shit any more, the Wii was a retarded ass gimmick that I fell for. Now every single time one of your few and far between actual REAL games come out (you know those few games you now want to rape like the rest) I pray that there is gamecube controller compatability.
Just Dig the grave deeper miyamoto.

Shut the f*** up assholes. I can bet the half of you didn’t beat LoZ:TP without a fucking strategy guide. Miyamoto won’t ruin Zelda trust me. Nintendo is not shit the Wii is fucking sweet. I’m sure it won’t be a fucking pussy game the puzzles in TP were too hard.
By Fan on Jul 18, 2008
Relax guys! He only said that he can’t forget casualgamers, he never said casualgamers are the most important. Maby there will be a difficulty setting. I think you are overreacting. And no, I’m not a casualgamer, I am Nintendofan my whole live. And will continue being a Nintendofan. I play hardcoregames, but I’ll also buy WiiFit, WiiMusic and Endless Ocean. I’ve bought Red Steel, CoD3, MoHHeroesII, LoZ: TP, Splinter Cell, Galaxy, Brawl. Yes, I think TP was to easy, but it wás a Zeldagame. It was a beautiful Zeldagame, with beautiful music, storyline, and so on. I think Nintendo proved many times they don’t f*** up. So please sit down and relax till you have got this Zeldagame.
By afscrome on Jul 18, 2008
I’m not sure it’ll end up being as bad as you’re making out. Phantom Hourglass was designed to make it more accessible to casual gamers, and the game didn’t turn out that bad.
By Kaleesh on Jul 18, 2008
WTF?????
NO FREAKING WAY. WTH IS WRONG WITH NINTENDO THESE DAYS??? WHO SAYS CASUAL GAMERS NEED ZELDA?? Make them their own freaking sucky franchise!
By 0Chuey0 on Jul 18, 2008
That is some kind of crap! It’s too outrageous to believe. These Nintendo game creators aren’t that flippin’ out of their minds!
That picture looks false to me. They wouldn’t just throw hard-Zelda out the window. I’d like some video proof of him saying that, or I’m not going to believe it.
They’d be LOSING money if they made easier games. There’s gonna be more success with Microsoft and Sony because of this. When they realize they’ve made a big mistake, we’ll be the ones chuckling. >:/
By jay on Jul 18, 2008
If I were you I would buy a 360 or a PS3, no hardcore games will come to the Wii. To much money for them on the casual market. The other two consoles (specially the 360), they depend on hardcore gamers so they need hardcore games
By Andel on Jul 18, 2008
Hopefully saner heads will prevail at Nintendo. As it was, a braindead monkey could solve any puzzle in TP and PH. It’s sad when games come out that make OoT’s puzzles look difficult.
As for the “difficulty setting comment,” difficulty settings usually just mean the damage integer is changed—doing nothing to the actual difficulty of the game. Fights should be harder, not longer. At least with some later MM titles they attempted actual difficulty by changing boss patterns at the harder difficulties and letting them use their special attacks sooner.
By Akeem on Jul 18, 2008
Well I loved WW. My favorite one to date I guess, But it was even harder than Twilight Princess, which Shiggy thinks was a core game. Darn, I wanted some challenge, but Im glad the’re continuing with the series.

Man, just do the world a favour and stop playing video games. TP puzzles? Hard? What puzzles? Are you brain dead or something?
By Pat on Jul 18, 2008
Common piece of shit crap twilight princess was way too fukin easy i got absolutely everything. i got every single piece of heart without talking to the fat lady and talking to her makes it way too easy. Ocarina of time was the best because i dont even have everything yet and THAT is what makes it more fun. Now that i got everything on twilight princess what am i supposed to do now? And yess i still play ocarina of time. i just think its too bad that the best game series will become too easy. when i play a game i love when i get challenged and thats y the only thing i loved of twilight princess was the dungeon going deeper and deeper and beating 3 knights. well nintendo let me tell u, u disapoint me because u let me down and whats the point of playing a game if its way too easy and u get evrything in 100h? what to do with wen u r done? trash it?
By nacho on Jul 18, 2008
I don’t mind if there are less running around quests but atleast make harder bosses. In TP i never died or used a potion on a boss, not even ganon. On Snes it would take several tries.

Mario Kart Wii is just the BEGINNING of the end. That was horrible.
Nintendo is just giving the finger to the less profitable hardcore gamers. Let’s face it, Nintendo has failed us.
By Gustaf Moebius on Jul 18, 2008
How can they make Zelda more casual? I bet if you give a copy to a random person and force them to play, they can beat them pretty easy. My 11 year old sister finished every modern Zelda, and she doesn’t even play much games.

Wow. Just, wow. I got a Wii in hopes of playing some games that I will actually like. What do we get?
The Legend of Zelda: The Party Family Game Princess. Seriously, what the f***?
This is why we all need to buy THE CONDUIT for Wii. Nintendo (actually, f*** Nintendo), some other gaming company will see that the Wii still boasts a hardcore audience. Maybe the other companies will start to produce some games that cater to us, the hardcore, the fans who fucking made Nintendo what it is now. I seriously fell for Nintendo’s trap.
High Voltage are the guys who are also probably thinking “What the f*** Nintendo?”. They know what we want.
So please, for the sake of our gaming needs, SUPPORT THE CONDUIT and buy it!
By keyblademaster333 on Jul 18, 2008
I dont get why they would do this?
By tencoth on Jul 18, 2008
AWW COME ON!! Why would they do that? Hard core gamers need hard core games. We already have plenty of casual games like Exite Truck, wii sports, wii play, wii fit, and guitar hero (not so much guitar hero though). The hard core gamers should have more. I should have known with LoZ phantom hourglass it seemed to easy I beat it in a few days.
By Smasher64 on Jul 18, 2008
heres an idea: put a hard AND easy mode on the next zelda title
By Flyguy101 on Jul 18, 2008
Guys, cool it. I’m a wii hardcore gamer, and while TP was too easy, he said he’ll make it ACCESSIBLE for casuals. This could easily be saying something like a difficulty mode, or something of the sort. Cool it guys, really.
By milkpwns on Jul 18, 2008
Ya…I could put up with all the annoying casual games at first. I mean they were fun and good to play when your bored, but what about us hardcore gamers? If your going to try to dumb down Zelda at least make a difficulty level in it. Such as, “Easy” for casuals, “Medium” for Long Time Zelda Noobs, and “Hard” for Hardcore gamers, etc.

By fuck you nintendo your killing yourself on Jul 18, 2008
o 1 more last thing what the hell was nintendo thinking with mario galaxy more platforms to jump on big woop why do we even buy their games they need us but if they dont want us then lets get the hell out of here
By Robbie on Jul 18, 2008
No. There is no arguing with Zelda being made easier. I must say i lvoed TP. I LOVED it. and Ocarina. Let’s just say i spent a whole day playing it and i still didn’t get very far. but that made me want to play it more the next day. and now that it’s supposibly getting “easier” well that just screwed me ove rdidn’t it. When i heard they had been working on a new Zelda game for two years now i had really hoped i’d be like OoT. Actually i wanted an OoT re-make. but now i fell me who has stuck Nintendo through the eyars protected it in debates lined up to get a Wii and a GC and opening up N64 and playing NES with my whole family all night, is getting screwed over. I mean come on even Brawl got dumbed down and even though i’m ok with that i’m use to it now and have alot of fun playing but not that many “casual” gamers bought it. If you’re a brawl noob you probably got it cause you were a melee noob to. Nintendo i’m sorry but i liked N64 more than the wii. Oh and Shigeru, you fuckin suck.
By Eduardo on Jul 18, 2008
So… it’s basicly this now:
N64>CG>>>Wii
To think that 5 years ago i was the biggest Nintendo fanboy, and now they basicly say “Hey, loyal gamers, f*** you, we’ll make cheap games for n00bs!”

By Darkneoryu on Jul 19, 2008
First of all, they shouldn’t make it accesible to other consoles. It is only a Nintendo Exclusive. It’s like saying putting Halo accesible to the Ps3. And to the people who say it’s “Too hard,” it’s called the internet. USE IT TO HELP YOU! Legend of Zelda only belongs in the Nintendo franchise and only a Wii exlcusive. They shouldn’t tone down the difficulty of the game. Matter a fact, make it as hard as possible so people will be stuck with the game. Like Ninja Gaiden for instance, it’s near impossible, and Tecmo make the next one ever harder. Nintendo, do not make it accessible, it is a bad descision that will tone down your company’s reputation. I only played Twilight Princess and Orcarina of Time, and I gotta say, they’re both good games. I’m just dissapointed that’s all. The new LOZ game should be near impossible.
By Isara Suntichotinun on Jul 19, 2008
I dont realy care what nintendo does if it’s hard or not hard its still a game if you like the game and happen to like thgen play it why does every game in he world have to be a hard game i can say tha the bosses were easy but i liked the game even when its easy

f*** THAT!!!
If newbies wanna get used to Zelda, all they have to do is play WinWaker because that one was fucking easy and still fun, the fun in Zelda games IS that they’re hard and though to complete, THAT’S THE WHOLE POINT IN ZELDA GAMES!!!

Dumbing down a Zelda game? We need another OoT Water Temple. That temple took me a month to figure out. I went to on and off playing Zelda, and I was stressed. Then I beat it. That felt good. I want to do that again, but this time make the bosses harder too.

RIP. Enough said. Nintendo clearly does not care about their customers. Now the Wii will have less sales, since the customer service is as smart as a cat trying to catch a rat that is not even fucking moving. And is so damn strong it can’t even carry the PS3. But the point of this rant, Nintentdo has now destroyed the Wii.
By Mike Moulton on Jul 19, 2008
I’ve been REAL patient with Nintendo, through these recessions of boring, casual Wii titles, but dumbing down a Zelda game is pissing me off…. Zelda games are THE most challenging games I enjoy and one of my favorite hardcore titles on Nintendo (next to Pokemon and Smash Bros.) and to strip a Zelda game of its most attractive appeal to us hardcore players is unreasonable… Shigeru is truly ruining the games hardcore players cherish the most for the inclusion of non-gamers and noobs who know NOTHING of a true Zelda game? I’ve even considered buying a 360 now cuz of all the hardcore fighters that might have been possible on a Wii, but are clearly out of reach, and I’ve lead a personal hate streak on Microsoft for a really long time but the spirit has finally broken and my remaining happiness of challenging gaming lies on a PS3 or EVEN the 360 for sure…… I’ll stay with Nintendo in hopes they improve their ways and preserve Pokemon as one of its remaining great must-have games, but I’m moving to PS3 for REAL hardcore excitement…..

Stop your excessive whining!
Maybe Nintendo shouldn’t have even started making video games back then if they knew this is how people would react to them soon in the future.
I bet you guys would like that, huh?
No more Nintendo, because “Nintendo makes their games too ‘accessible’”
Would you rather be glad that there was no such thing as Mario, or Legend of Zelda, or Super Smash Bros., or even Nintendo themselves?
Fine.
At least Miyamoto is trying his best to continue the Zelda series.
He could’ve stop after Twilight Princess and said that’s the end of that!
I mean, that’s what we thought at first according to rumors.
If you think that what Miyamoto is doing for just ONE Zelda game is consider absurd, or stupid, then don’t buy it.
Just don’t buy it…simple as that!
But keep this in mind:
We were once these so-called “casual gamers” too back when Zelda first appeared.
Bottom line, AT LEAST THEY’RE TRYING THEIR BEST.
By FAG on Jul 20, 2008
I laugh at anyone who says something like “at least nintendo is still making games”.
The ONLY thing worse than not having a new game, is having a new bad game.
At least when you don’t have a new bad game, you can speculate about how awesome a new addition would be as opposed to being exposed to the harsh reality of non-games for non-gamers.
By alright on Jul 20, 2008

omg, Nintendo, dont you have enough games for “casual gamers?” i think what you should look into is working on more challenging games. no one likes simple games D:. The harder the better. keeps you playing longer.

dont f*** with Zelda. bad move. i don’t know how well i would take it if you ruined Zelda.
By Eric on Jul 20, 2008
The thing you guys don’t get is that you still have power, and if you don’t like it, let it show on release day. Quit your bitching because it wont change things. Send them a message by not buying what you know is shit and maybe someone will make something better? It’s the only thing that ever kept the game industry alive, and if you can’t be patient enough to wait for quality gaming then you need to come up with something else to occupy yourself with. Clearly you have no depth.

If the new zelda is as easy as Phantom Hourglass was, another game that was reimagined for the casual market, than I might cry. The dungeon puzzles were predicatable, the combat was ridiculously easy, and it was short.
If Zelda is as lukewarm as all of Nintendo’s other franchises have become on the Wii, I may have to buy and Xbox or a PS3 after all. At least they have core titles coming out on a regular basis.

Oh yeah, Starmaster, you’re absolutely right. WE LOVE NINTENDO BECAUSE THEY MAKE COOL GAMES WITH MOTION CENSORS.

Honestly, don’t be so naive.
By Skitt on Jul 20, 2008
It wasn’t the casual gamers that, ten long years ago, went to EBGames at two in the morning in the cold to buy Ocarina of Time. It was the hard, dedicated Zelda-lovers who had played every game back to the very first. If a new Zelda poses no challenge, if it’s just a cute gimmick in a box.. Nintendo, I promise, will lose thousands of fans in seconds.
By Necromance on Jul 20, 2008
I usually tend to like Nintendo games better because they are much more varied in types of gameplay Other system’s hardcore games all seem to have gun shooting and mindless violence (which isn’t a bad thing at all.) But Nintendo just seems to be turning a blind eye to us. I love that casual gamers are having fun with the Wii, but I can’t help but wish I could be sharing their enthusiasm. *sigh* The Xbox 360 is looking cooler each day.

By CBleach on Jul 20, 2008
Hey anyone thinking that TP was ‘too hard’ did you make it into your schools? I mean seriously I stuck with nintendo since I was a wee lad and now they’re screwing over the gamer like me and many others. I want an LoZ game that takes LOOOOOOOAAAADS of hours. Massive boss fights. Hell make a game that’s ‘The Legend of Zelda:Sissy boy’ so the Brain-deads will be stuck and we can have a real Wii game. I looked forward to Brawl so much. Then I found out that it was slowed dramatically ruining the proper gaming experience. Even at snails pace some people still struggle. WELL f*** THEM! I don’t know how much more of this I can take but if ‘Wii Play’ or ‘Wii Fit’ is the best selling Wii title (game is inappropiate here) then Nintendo will be lost forever to the long loyal gamers. Buck up your ideas Nintendo or f*** OFF!

Whoever said ONE game to extreme easiness is a retard. IT IS MANY MORE THAN ONE NOW. THERE HASN’T BEEN A CHALLENGING NINTENDO GAME FOR AAAAAAAAAAAGES! I do agree that nintendo could make games for the casual and the hardcore. But they don’t. 360 wins on account the other next gen consoles suck.
By Holy Fuck on Jul 21, 2008
I could cry, but I cant! There is too much of everything going on inside of me…Zelda…easier…?….Christ…I BEAT TP IN FUCKIN 3 DAYS! 100% AND THIS IS WHAT THEY DO!? o_O I BLAME WIIFIT!
By Nintendo/Casuals SUCK! on Jul 21, 2008
OMG? Twilight Princess was a beautiful game that ripped-off everything nice about Zelda and was too fucking easy. Now they want to make it even easier?
WHAT!? You know what this means? You know don’t you??
It means that Nintendo have finally died. They’ve given in three year olds and ninety years olds playing Zelda games.
The worst part about making Zelda more “accessible” was that it was already accessible enough… getting anymore accessible is like making a “Zelda” brain-training game or worse..
And an even worse part about this all is that casuals will not buy a Zelda game anyway. So… Nintendo… your trying to tell me eighty-year old grandmas that play Wii sports with their four-year old grandchildren will even actually take an interest into playing Zelda. Making Zelda more accessible is just killing the game because casuals won’t play it anyway, so it’s just ruining it for the hardcore.
Like I said before, Nintendo you just died.
f*** YOU.
By Nintendo/Casuals SUCK! on Jul 21, 2008
I also have this really weird feeling that the Wii Motion Plus was made before the Wii actually came out. But instead they decided to dumb it down to the shit motion controls… make tons of profit and money while it still hasn’t become a gimmick… then they put the Motion Plus out half way through Wii’s life span because they already knew their so called “revolution” would turn out to be a gimmick.
Nintendo just sunk down to Sony and MS’s level… if not… worse.
By Nintendo/Casuals SUCK! on Jul 21, 2008
I’d also like to say that people who find a game like Zelda hard… must be extremely STUPID people.
By Twyatts on Jul 21, 2008
Read what Miyamoto said again. He wants to make his games more ACCESSIBLE, not neccesarily easier, just so that people who aren’t you or me can pick up the controller and within a few minutes get a nice feel for the play mechanics.
By the way, back in the days of yore (NES and SNES), videogames were made for everyone to enjoy, and there was no such thing as a “core” gamer – Don’t go thinking that Nintendo Owes you anything guys.
By Twyatts on Jul 21, 2008
Speaking of, he’s Miyamoto, the man responsible for so many great games. He knows what he’s doing with them.
By Deet-tastic on Jul 21, 2008
Guys, chill with the fu’s.
Maybe his views on a hardcore-gamer are different than yours. Maybe he thinks hardcore gaming is stuff like cod4 or mgs4 or something..(pretty much is). It looks like, with this view in mind, that your saying “FU nintendo, we want Blood, disembodied heads, sex, and alcohol!!!!”
IF he thinks that i can definently see why he would say what he said.
Just think about the u.s view, and your own personall view, on the hardcore games compared to japan. Their culture is different. We need to accept that.
I have no worries for the future of zelda other than them getting the timeline tied together. I have faith in nintendo and that they wouln’t make it like
“The Legend of Zelda: Dora the Explorer meets Barney (sing-a-long edition)”
If thats your view on casual then you should seriously stop playing games like assassins creed or something. (not that its a bad game, i love it. alot.)
This is Miyamoto guys, the godfather of gaming. Believe.
By CBleach on Jul 21, 2008
TP looked real cool but i was dissappointed by it’s lack of difficulty. Accessible with Zelda does mean making it easier by the way. Seeing as the control systems have been simple enough to pick up it should be the game that’s hard. And Nintendo does kind of owe us. Seriously, when was the last decent game not for casual gamers? If ya ask me it was TP but that blowed. AAAAAAAARGH! If Nintendo could just make one PROPER game that takes a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time to complete and you die more often due to the difficulty then I will be happy.
By CBleach on Jul 21, 2008
p.s. Miyamoto has thus far ruined a number of games, for example, Brawl (slower and wtf:tripping!), Mario Galaxy (again too easy) and TP (don’t get me started).
If Miyamoto dumbs down stuff like Zelda and others he’ll lose a large portion of the market.
By JK on Jul 21, 2008
Lets stop cursing at Nintendo and deal with it. Damn.
By Boruc on Jul 21, 2008
Great idea guys at the heart of it but he has picked the worst possible franchise to experiment with. The standard of “A Link to a Past” and “Ocarina of Time” have not been improved upon and this is a major blow to Nintendo if they actually dumb down this franchise.
By Eddie on Jul 21, 2008
For all of you saying at least they still make games? Who the hell cares if their going to make every single on of their franchises super easy. What the hell is the point of playing a games thats not challenging?
I really hope this means something else and everyone just interpreting it wrong. But if they make the next game easier then TP I’ll have the temptation to take the disc out and throw it across the dam room.
I cannot stand a game where the bosses do crappy damage A boss is called a “Boss” because its suppose to challenge your abilities to the next level and be difficult thats why its called a Boss. If a boss is what we had in TP I’m scared to think how easier they could become well with the exception of the spinner boss battle that one was actually good.
By Scammy on Jul 21, 2008
f*** YOU NINTENDO.
Christ. Here I am hoping for an epic installment to the series and instead you’re making it “accessible”. If you start making my favorite game franchises into the equivalent of shovelware, I’m going to introduce my Wii to an actual shovel.
By ace_Z on Jul 21, 2008
OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!! The Wii fucking sucks….the best system that Nintendo has released is still the SNES. best games best difficulty. seriously they just suck balls now. your games are to easy!
By DJ Kitsune on Jul 21, 2008
Well I’ve been playing Zelda ever since my mom bought and finished the first one back when I was two…which I finished at age 8.
I just finished Phantom Hourglass last week…and I’m going to not crucify Nintendo just yet until I hear everything coming out of the rumor mill.
But I will say this in opposition to Miyamoto: his concerns about the Nintendo franchise games not catering to casual gamers or needing to cater more doesn’t have a lot of ground: millions of people bought and played the LoZ games and I think ANY new Zelda game will sell well and be a great game whether a hardcore or a casual gamer plays it.
By guys........... on Jul 21, 2008

By The Wii is Dead in the Water on Jul 21, 2008
What the hell are they gonna do, give players the ability to make Link jump? WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Seriously, Nintendo needs to open their eyes to the facts. We don’t live in the past where video games were limited and we would play any game… Gamers have a WIDE variety of choices, and long-time Nintendo fans will slowly become new Sony/Microsoft fans.
Seriously, come one, Nintendo. This is just a giant smash in the balls for all of the hardcore fans… My children won’t have children after this blow.
By Eddie on Jul 22, 2008
Guys…
You forgetting one thing an rpg has levels and you can adjust the difficulty by choosing not to fight the random battles. Now a days they also have difficulty levels.
All of the recent Zelda games have no difficulty settings. So if its easy..its easy no choice.
By hey you dick weeds! on Jul 22, 2008
all you a$$ holes that keep saying F Nintendo should go and stab yourself in the eye, it’s nintendo’s style to make games without difficulty’s, if the did start brining that in it would make everything so much easier for there future games, all they need to do is not put in a difficulties setting and just make the actual gameplay harder, oh a btw they also make there games so little kids can play them, hmm you ever think about that?
By Eddie on Jul 22, 2008
Hmm did you ever think about umm I don’t know creating a franchise for the casuals instead of dumbing down our games.
By Encon on Jul 22, 2008

if they wanted zelda to be good for new players why don’t they mother fucking fuckity fucking make easy mode normal or mother fucking hard mode
By CBleach on Jul 23, 2008
If there were different difficulty settings that would really only affect combat right? I mean that alone would help revive LoZ. The puzzles of course would still suck. Can’t Nintendo just make a proper LoZ game? I don’t want ‘The Legend of Zelda:Teletubby Chronicles’!
By bmo on Jul 23, 2008
maybe the fact that everyone finds these admittedly intricate games too easy is a sign that we all need to put down the sticks and get out more
By Frostier on Jul 24, 2008
Okay look. To make a game accesible for all the casual gamers(which I don’t see why you would want to I mean casual gamers buy the game don’t play more than once a week and aren’t even a contributing party to the developement of game ideas or bug fixes and won’t be a major part of the forum. just put a difficulty set and pick casual or has hand-eye-co-ordination. Just as WTF ur mom!and Dodongo, said quite elegantly. Eddie also has a great point in making a series for casual gaming and put a label or sticker on the back saying, Casual or Hardcore. Now if you think that the casual players will be embarressed for buying a Casual game well then it’s their own fault for not figuring out how to press a few buttons. The last thing I have to say is that people who post angry comments about nintendo Ideas without putting forth ways to solve the problem are well lol Casual(instead of other words that could have been used).
By CBleach on Jul 24, 2008
I think generally the impression some one gets from reading these comments is that Zelda shouldn’t be dumbed down. The angry comments do all suggest that TP needs to be improved on…
By smashbro29 on Jul 24, 2008
What the hell?! I have been a Nintendo fan since I was 6 and loved my Mario64 because it was something to overcome for me and to this day it’s still a fairly challenging game then I play Zelda TP WW and Link to the past love how awesome it is play PH ok it’s easy but hey very innovative AND now THIS BULLCRAP! shiggy you were my idol man what happened?
By Skitt on Jul 25, 2008
After reading another article that states clearly that Nintendo does not plan on releasing any new ‘core gamer’ games within the course of a year.. I think it’s time to put your Wiis in the closet and get an XBox or, heaven forbid, a PS3.
And I thought it would be good to go with the ‘innovative’ brand..
By Squeaky on Jul 26, 2008
There was once a game called Kirby Squeak Squad. As according to everyone who played it, it was a lot of fun. There were a ton of special abilities and ways to play. Unfortunately, the game was not only pathetically easy, but also short. In fact, most people had beaten it in but a single day. If Nintendo keeps up with this “decline of video games” Squeak Squad shall become the perfect role model and indeed, the shining diamond in the eyes of Miyamoto.
By Seth on Jul 26, 2008
Lawl, so many whiners, and it’s hilarious how people throw “HARDCORE” and “CASUAL” around. I really wish those words were deleted from existance. XD
Anyway, yaaay, I play games for the fun. Hard or easy, big whoop. I shall always stick with Nintendo, easy or hard games. In fact, I hope they make more games accessable to people who like easier games. I like hard games too, but you don’t see me flipping out over games and throwing threats and cursing like a little spoiled brat. Haha, now give me some of them flames and stuff, arguing is fun.

By supersayinlink on Jul 28, 2008
What?!?!?! toning it down? WTH i love the zelda series the new zelda twighlight princess was WAY to easy windwaker was harder (mostly in the puppet gannon fight but not zelda II hard) why dont you go back to the roots of zelda like capcom is with megaman 9? i mean that would be awesome!
By The Twilight Shadow on Jul 30, 2008
No
Just No.
It’s understandable that Miyamoto wants to tap into the vast casual gamer resource, but there are somethings that should be left unchanged. Nintendo will lose a LOT of fans if they make the next LoZ a casual gamer game
And the only way they would bring us back is by making an LoZ game so great it towers over even Ocarina of Time
By The_Anon on Jul 30, 2008
Can TP get any easier? I mean, it was easy, but at least it had some hardcore aspects to it (quests, umm…I can’t think of anything else to be honest). But to make it a completely casual game? That’s just screwin us over (I can’t even imagine a casual zelda >_>)
Besides, they already have tons of casual games for the wii, why make more out of your most popular franchise? (Which I think, IMO, will hurt the series). Well, w/e, I’m still sticking to Nintendo.

By OniLink10 on Aug 2, 2008
Good Lord you guys are over-reacting! I laugh in the face of the guy who’ll introduce his Wi to an actual Shovel! XD Anyways, I agree that a Difficulty setting would be good for both Casual and Hardcore Gamers, as someone said. Also, if you only play games cause they’re Hard, you obviously don’t know what playing games is all about. It’s about having fun. If you don’t get that, I pity your Poor Judgement.
By Eddie on Aug 2, 2008
Umm thats the thing if a game is not challenging how is it fun then? Some of us can’t stand a game that’s not a challenge . Beating a boss thats easy does not give the same feeling of accomplishment as if the boss was hard. If the whole game is easy then how will you feel any accomplishment when you beat it?
By the sub on Aug 4, 2008

By Artxet on Aug 8, 2008
Well, it’s disappointing, I’ll admit. But, here is hoping the game might still be good. But, after Twilight Princess, I was hoping that the difficultly would be raised higher. I recently started to play Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, and it’s difficult on all kinds of levels. But that is the main reason I like it so much, BECAUSE it offers me a challenge and I don’t just breeze through it. Most games often only take me two days to beat and this is the first one in over 8 years (I started gaming at age
that has taken me longer. I guess I’ll have other things to look forward to, more so then Zelda. Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep is beginning to look more promising. And that’s on the PSP, for goodness sake! Come on, Nintendo, try to make one Zelda game at least for your die-hard fanboys and girls.
By byron on Aug 9, 2008
nintendo ive stuck with you since i could talk and i’ve tryed to say “oh its just one of there bad games” every time you made a rubbish game but now your drowning out your hardcore gamers for casual gamers who play stuff like “puppy dog siimulater 5″ or “press a few button’s and the game is compleate” and right now im soo pissed off. NINTENDO GET SOME HARDCORE GAMES SERIOUSLY… PLEASE if zelda was dumed down it would only have one boss that you have to hit once and then the game is complete. i wouldnt normaly wright this much but nintendo have been pissing me off lately grrrrr

Accessible does NOT mean easy. It just means that it will be easier for newer gamers to pick up. It could mean that there is a difficulty setting, or maybe a tutorial. Maybe it mean that they are going to continue with this split of WW world and the darker world of TP. They may have and easier WW like game and a hardcore TP. We just don’t know. So lets stop jumping to conclusions.

By CBleach on Sep 6, 2008
What i don’t get is how casuals look at a core gamer. ‘they’ve forgotten what playing video games is all about if they’re looking for something hard’. Some people get there kicks out of a challenge. I know I do! That’s there way of entertainment- something that’ll push ‘em to the limits.
By CBleach on Sep 6, 2008
One more thing-some nintendo games are fun (brawl) but have nagging things in them (TRIPPING). No challenge is often presented. They made a mistake with SSB and LoZ. Everyone knows the phrase ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ right? Cause nintendo don’t.
By G.W. on Sep 10, 2008
I really hope they don’t change Zelda, or Mario for that matter. They are the main leading games and is basicly their blood flow.
If they dumb it down, it’s game over, literally. A majority of the game’s fanbase are now hardcore gamers, because they are loyal enough to play Zelda and Mario for so many years.
The “casual” gamers who tell Nintendo they want it “dumbed down” are just shitty-ass kids who don’t know how to play the game.
I’m a HUGE fan of Zelda, and I saw this article after I looked upon Guitarmasterx7′s videos, and I found that he was speaking the truth. The truth hurts like all hell on earth, but I thank him and I agree with him.
And as for difficulty settings, this would ruin Zelda. Zelda needs to be challenging, not a “brain training” game, or some other assisted crap.
Instead, Zelda needs to be difficult, we all enjoy games that offer challenge, and the ones who don’t like the newer, harder Zeldas can just go play OoT or Windwaker. Oot was easy AND was a masterpiece. Since Oot was easy, they made Master Quest, a harder version of Oot, and was perfectly executed!
WindWaker was FAAAAAR too easy for my taste, and Twilight princess had some good puzzles, but they slowed the game down because most of them were too easy.
And if they make a new Zelda, it will NO DOUBT be a dumbed-down version of Twilight Princess if they make it more accessible.
That’s just plain boring! And since when has Mario gone through any drastic change? To tell the truth, Super Mario Galaxy, in my opinion, was just Super Mario 64 with planets, slippery controls, and better graphics. That’s it. Nothing else has really changed.
Mario is another game needing to raise the level of difficulty.
Anyone who hates challenging games just need to play the easier versions of the games.
EX: Ocarina of time is EASIER than Master Quest. If master Quest is too hard, play the original Ocarina of time instead of just asking Nintendo to dumb down their master pieces.
Zelda would be awesome if it had difficulty, life-threatening puzzles, and insanely strong enemies.
Mario would be awesome with more epic boss fights, the original plots, and more worlds (ala Mario Bros. 3) instead of just stupid little bead-sized planets.
That’s all I have to say. It’s been fun Nintendo, but you’re heading the wrong direction if you make the decision to dumb down your best games and not make any hardcore franchises.

People sure do use the fword here a lot.
Anyway, I do hope they don’t make this too easy, as it won’t feel like you really achieved that much.
I ended up likely WW to my surprise but it was easy. And TP was alright, but it wasn’t as difficult as OoT or MM imo. Then again, I was like 11 when I played those so I could just be better now. But I agree with whoever said they need difficult settings for the hardcore group.
I’ll probably just wait til it gets released and see what the reviewers say. But I love Zelda and I really hope Nintendo doesn’t screw it up.
By reader on Oct 17, 2008
Well, i loved Nintendo and their games and especially zelda. But now they seem to be on the wrong way, and i just say that if you are going to make your games easier you are going to lose money. Atleast im not paying for a game thats not even a challenge.
Get that real Nintendo spirit back, or im afraid im putting Nintendo on the shelf.
By stinky5-0 on Nov 1, 2008
Seriously, toning a game down for nongamers? That’s like preparing a steak for vegans. Why do they need to appeal to the nongamers? A game company should only cater to the gamers.
By Nerk on Nov 10, 2008
=\ /sigh TP kicked ass, but every time that I killed a boss in three hits I kinda winced… 3 is the pwn number but cmon! You could flail the wiimote and win sometimes! GG… ppl now hate nintendo T.T
By dimmondslice on Nov 15, 2008
ok i dont even no where to start. after reading all the comments im suddenly starting torealize that nintendo might be really screwing us hardcore gamers. my fealings are really mixed though because its not to say new nintendo games arent fun or anything.but this?!?!?!?!? an easy zelda??????? tp was and still is my favorite game of all time but to be frankly honest…
IT WAS TOO EASY
its was still amazing in all aspects but there was no ” pull out my hair” hardness in the game.
AND NOW its going to posibly easier???? i mean i love nintendo and i fully trust the Shig but their new ” policy” of nongamer games is making me sick and ruining the gaming economy..
think of it like this. nintendo screws hardcore gamers.hardcore gamers move to 360. nintendo floats on casual players for a while. casual players that move up to hardcore switch to 360. nintendo loses more supporters and money. left over fans get srewed with THIS then they leave too. nintendos games get worse and worse. casual gamers leave them too. the other systems offer like no casual games. then the casaul gamers leave the world of gaming. no new gamers, game economy slowy writhers then crashes and burns
so way to go nintendo u might have just caused the imenent demise of games. i love u, but u need a really big kick in the pants.
By ShadowFox on Nov 18, 2008
hey fucking nintendo ur gona loose all the hardcore gamers out there, fuckin ediots we dont need it easier already easy enough! WTF! were all mad at you you’re making things worse u should make more games like Brawl not does kiddy f*** games please listen

By DarkLink on Nov 24, 2008
they had to make a noob level and a master level (for guys like us)
;D
By Ulquiorra Schiffer on Dec 10, 2008
f***!
THEY ARE ACTUALLY CONSIDERING INCORPORATING THE FUCKING WII FIT SHITBOARD IN THE NEW ZELDA GAME!!!!
NINTENDO’S MAKING ALL THIS FUCKING MONEY FROM CASUAL GAMERS AND HAS ABANDONED HARDCORE GAMERS WHO DON’T WANT TO WASTE THEIR TIME WITH WII MUSIC OR SPORTS OR SHIT LIKE THAT AND JUST WANT AN INSANE ZELDA GAME!!!!
When hardcore games start drifting towards casual gamers they lose their feel. Remember how ocarina of time and majora’s mask felt? those games were revolutionary! majora’s mask had a totally unique storyline that didn’t compromise that feeling you got when you played a zelda game. That feeling was lost for me when i played twilight princess. Not just the fact that you had the waggle controls, but just the entire atmosphere of the game and how the puzzles played out. it just ruined the experience. the story was totally unoriginal, a very sad attempt at deviating from a traditional zelda game. The only way i can see nintendo redeeming themselves is by making a sequel to majora’s mask. This would nudge them to bring back the traditional feel that majora’s mask had and they could expand on the mask concept since this is a next-gen system. The story has to be somehow related to majora’s mask though, it can’t just be like “Here i am in termina, let’s go fight gannon again…” Seriously that guy’s gotta die and spawn some new reincarnation of himself that has nothing to do with the original gannon because i’m getting really tired of seeing his ass all over the place. that’s why i loved majora’s mask. no gannon! huh! who would’ve thunk it!
anyway if nintendo wants to appeal to casual gamers they should do it with the ds only. if the new zelda game is a flop like myamoto wants to make it, and nintendo goes under, i hope a company comes and scoops up a few of the straggling developers and the rights to the zelda franchise and comes out with an amazing new zelda game that goes along with the original games that made hardcore gamers the zelda fans they are today.
By Diggler on Dec 22, 2008
THIS IS DOG SHIT! I KNEW NINTENDO HAD SOLD OUT BECAUSE THEY SUCK BUT THIS IS SHIT CASUAL GAMERS CAN GO TO HELL I CAN PWN LOZ TP IN A FEW HOURS, WHO CANT?
Anyway now thats over, if you want someone who HASNT sold out completely, Capcom for the xbox 360, mm9 dmc 4
the Wii is shit anyway i even prefer SEGA
(Death to Masahiro Sakurai, you ruined probably the best series)
By Dranart on Dec 23, 2008
Jesus man. Don’t kill the only series I have faith in entirely. TP is alright, but like everyone else has said, it was too easy. You guys had the right idea with OoT Master Quest. Just use the regular easy holding hands BS for the casual fans; and give us the hardcore Zelda series to the fans that have been with you since the days of the NES.

Casualfags who are happy at being accepted into the Zelda Franchise.
Hardcore players who had their games being invaded by casuals.
tl;dr Casualfags are the cancer killing Nintendo
By Shadow on Feb 24, 2009
FFS Nintendo get your shit together. your turning your whole indsutry into ‘casual’ games, ‘friendly’ games, games that can be ‘enjoyed by everyone’. f*** that shit. you’ve got wii fit and dozens of other shitty games for 3 years olds and grandmas to play DON’T BRING ZELDA DOWN TO THAT LEVEL. Yes you make a shit load off casual gamers but youve been making a shit load off hardcore fans a lot longer than you have casual players. Zelda is a hardcore game, leave it that way. Not once have i heard a single person say “You know i like Zelda, but i’d like it a lot better if it was so pussywipped my 3 year old retarded cousin could play it at the same level i do”
By Maw on Mar 7, 2009
Come ON!!!
You guys were the best. You’ve been in the bussiness since 1981. LEARN SOMETHING ABOUT GAMERS! Zelda, especially ‘Twilight Princess’, just cannot be a casual game. It’s not possible! If you do that, the game just blows! I know a guy who said it best. Here. Warning, foul language involved.

By Leez on Apr 22, 2009
honestly, i can’t even beat the first dungeon on wind waker and im always stuck on hourglass, i grew up with zelda and i think it needs to stick to the pure zelda-ness as of the other games. i dont care if i cant beat it. its a great series and im gonna buy a few copies even if i cant get past typing “LINK”. im gonna buy a few copies if i beat it in five minutes. its zedla. its awsome no matter what.
(though difficulty settings would be nice. easy(“casual”) for me, and uber delux hard “hardcore” for my brother. everyone wins.)
By FUCK on Apr 28, 2009
what the f***!! no way nin10doh if you’re reading this: NO! you made engough money with the casual shit you’re not gonna ruin zelda.

By Super Smash Bros. Fan on Jun 20, 2009
Even thought nobody’s going to read this comment, I’m still posting away. Shut up and realize your mistakes.
Okay, these comments that I’ve heard for almost a year are mostly ****! I cannot believe by foul-mouthing, you accuse Nintendo of abandoning the hardcore gamer. What are you thinking? There’s good games to come by Nintendo and third-party developers. Let’s list some:
Nintendo:
1. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (2010)
2. Metroid: Other M (2010)
3. The Legend of Zelda Wii 2 (2010-2011)
4. Pikimin 3 (2010)
5. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Fall, 2009)
6. Wii Sporst Resort (July 27, 2009)
7. Golden Sun DS (2010)
8. Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story (Fall, 2009)
9. Metroid Prime Trilogy (August, 2009)
10. Endless Ocean 2 (2010)
Sega:
1. The Conduit (June 23, 2009)
Capcom:
1. Tatsunko Vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars (Winter, 2009)
2. Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (Winter, 2009)
3. Monster Hunters 3 (2010)
XSeed:
1. Muramasa: The Demon Blade (September 7, 2009)
Ubisoft:
1. No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle (Januaray, 2010)
2. Red Steel 2 (Fall, 2009)
Namco Bandai:
1. Dragonball: Revenge of King Piccolo (Fall, 2009)
EA Sports:
1. Dead Space: Extraction (Fall, 2009)
Activision:
1. Guitar Hero V (September 1, 2009)
2. Rabbids Go Home (Holiday, 2009)
3. Tony Hawk Ride (Holiday, 2009)
Unknown:
1. Gladiator A.D (Early, 2010)
2. The Grinder (Holiday, 2010)
And more that I’ve missed. Seriously, after all the good things we’ve been getting recently, such as Madworld and Punch-Out!!, your still treating it as the worst video game console ever made. Nintendo still cares about the hardcore gamers, they are trying to appeal to the casual gamers too. This approach has worked (At least for me.). What you guys needs to understand is that their are far worse video game systems out their. Such as the 3DO and Atari Jaguar. Those systems are the truly terrible systems that we should not ever going to.
And surprise, surprise, I like the Wii more then the Gamecube? I was so bored witht the Gamecube as my only systemk but when I got my Wii online, I realize that I bought an great system that was severly underrated by the hardcore community. Nintendo has been so much better this generation, that call me crazy, but the Wii made me an full-fledge hardcore gamer I am today. And no, I’m not some stupid casual gamer, I’m an mature hardcore gamer who started with an Nintendo 64 in 1999. I’ve beeng gaming for ten years! TEN YEARS!
There are so many good games for the Wii right now. Super Mario Galaxy, Excitebots: Trick Racing, Guitar Hero: World Tour, The Godfather: Blackhand Edition, No More Heroes, Guilty Gear: Accent Core, De Blob, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and more, Heck, even Sonic Unleashed was an great game to play.
And yet your still complaining. Does the Virtual Console work with 304 of (mostly) classic goodies satisfy you? No it doesn’t.
What about WiiWare? Sure it isn’t the best thing we’ve seen, but at least it has some good games. Dr. Mario Online RX, Bomberman Blast, Tetris Party, Onslaught, and the universally acclaimed World of Goo.
Also, Super Mario Galaxy won the IGN Award for 2007 Game of the Year. Quite an accomplishment for such an “absymal” console, isn’t it?
But no, your still not satisfied with Nintendo’s gift. Then turn to the DS!
It has so many amazing games for the system, it’s litterally flooded with them!
Also for the DSi, there are good games for that also. Mario Vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again, Dr. Mario Express, Real Life Soccer 2009, American Popstar, and more!
But sadly, your never satisified. Then after all this, you’ll tell me in your rants against me that I should accept the fact that Nintendo sucks now and so does everything else related to it. Oh heck no! I’ve never was be a Wii, DS, or Nintendo hater, and never will. What is your problems I say again?
And about this casual situation about Nintendo dumbing down their franchise, so what if they are doing it? As long as it’s fun, I’m happy. WHY CAN’T YOU BE GLAD THAT NINTENDO CARES ABOUT YOU? Oh and had they not choosen to also support the casual gamers, Nintendo would not be making video game consoles today. But sadly, you want them to be a third-party company, so you’ll ignore them. Nintendo will not become one for a long time and I know that for a fact. They are one of the richest video game companies in the world and they spend it on making quality games, not on their things. That’s right, they work their butt off for you unappreatice fans.
If their was a disease on the Wii, it’s shovelware, not casual gamers. Has casual games become shovelwares? Guess what? Super Mario Bros. is casual and you don’t call it shovelware? Why not? Because it’s one of the greatest video games of all time. Super Mario Galaxy is also one of the greatest video games of all time and you call it ****. I own the game and it’s amazing! I also own Mario Kart Wii and that’s a great game too. It sets the standard for solid online games for the Wii and that will be broken soon thankfully (With The Conduit.).
And for people who thinks that all Wii games are easy, think again! Punch-Out!! brings back the exterme diffculty you’ve all begged for, now enjoy that!
Since you’ll never listen to me, I have no choice but to declare the Nintendo fanbase the very worst fanbase I’ve ever seen. All you do is *****, whine, moan, and complain about Nintendo, while you treat Microsoft and Sony (To a lesser degree) like they were gods. I know you’ll work so many ways towards me and try to convince me so hard to be a Wii hater, but guess what? It’s not happening. In fact, if I see so many negitive respones again on a website, let me tell you this once and once only. I will declare e-war on all the Nintendo fanboys who thinks Nintendo has abandon them. I’m dead serious. EVEN THE SONIC FANBASE IS BETTER THEN THIS! So what if they argue with each other? At least they know the Sonic games lately actually sucks. The games Nintendo delievered to you are classics!
If there’s a fanbase that never stop complaining about anything, it’s the one that I’m ranting about right now (The Nintendo fanbase.). There’s more important things to get made about. Like, the people dying in Iraq because of war, terrorist, religion intolerance. Even Cartoon Network is a better thing to rant about, because at least they’ve actually broken their promise. They promised 24/7 cartoons, they broke that promise big time. What Nintendo promised was high-quality video games at all time. They delievered in the past and they are delievering right now.
I’m done have a nice ******* day (I should get Darkenessthecurse to rant on the Nintendo fanbase, because YOU ARE PATEHIC!)!

RIP Nintendo, you were a great company… Now all you’re doing is making casual games. I waited and waited for the day for a hardcore game, and all i get is zelda being made easier…i really thought that you wouldnt let us down, but i geuss you really have forgotten all about your hardcore gamers. Now my wii is just sitting there, getting all dusty. The only game im proud that they made is Brawl (although they shouldve improved it a little) Well, at least i still have my 360. Rest in peace nintendo…
By covert1994 on Jul 10, 2009
By the way, how much you want to bet that the list of games coming to wii are all gonna be casual as well… i dont really care though. I dont really like nintendo anymore, ive been waiting long enough. Xbox 360 all the way, im sorry nintendo.
By covert1994 on Jul 10, 2009
One last thing, nintendos online stuff is the worst thing ever. Inputing a whole bunch of numbers just to fight with you friend, just to have bad connection. Xbox 360s project Natal is gonna blow away the Wii. You dont even NEED a controller! Now thats truly amazing! Ill try as hard as i can to stay with you nintendo.

R.I.P Nintendo…
I swear, it’s been downhill since the Wii – too much catering to ‘family’ entertainment and ‘casual’ gamers, and not enough to satisfy those of us who’ve stuck with the franchise from the beginning
Well, on a lighter note, at least this next Zelda game still won’t be Wand of Gamelon (hopefully).

Nintendo wii is simply a piece of shitt ever made. It can not support most basic video formatts, one has to change video clips to wii-avi or wii-quicktime, once u changet it to wii format and play on wii, then u will realise how waste and bullshit machine is nintendo-wii. The picture quality is absolutely blurr, crapp and shitt, even 1960 movie picture is 100 times better than nintendo video quality! Nintendo is infact waste of money! At every single step you have to pay for nintendo! If you wanna download new game then you have to pay or buy them in shops or net. All those channels on wii manue can only be accessed if you get a high speed internet at home, probably one has to buy a router..even though you get access to internet still you have to pay for games etc. when you want to download a game then have to give your personal and bank detail for Mr.ideot Nintendo creator. I recomend all people not to buy Nintendo because it is boring and frustrating piece of shitt.I am quite sure that everyone who bought Nintendo is now regretting and trying to sell them away at once.
