Miyamoto hopes fans have faith in the Wii Vitality Sensor, says Nintendo has “very creative ideas”
August 4th, 2009 Posted in News, Posted by Valay, WiiPerhaps one of the oddest announces to have come out of E3 was Nintendo’s very own Wii Vitality Sensor. Sure, the Wii Balance Board received skepticism when it was first unveiled, but the Wii Vitality Sensor seems like a much different peripheral. Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto hopes that “people have confidence in us” even though he understands that showcasing software along with the announcement would have been preferable. Also, as has been Nintendo’s position with past add-ons, Miyamoto believes that the company has “lots of very creative ideas.”
“Ideally we would have been able to talk about this in terms of the software implementation rather than just the sensor itself. I don’t have any indication for you (of what we have in the works) other than to say that we have lots of very creative ideas.
We understand the challenge before us, and we have met these challenges in the past. We just ask that people have confidence in us.”

Considering what could be done with things like content generation based on biorhythms and things like that, there’s definitely far more potential in this peripheral than most blogs and gaming sites wanted to acknowledge when it was first unveiled.
Even Suda 51′s said he has ideas for how to use it, which should undoubtedly be interesting to see in execution.
At any rate, I’m going to be keeping an open mind and waiting to see what sorts of applications it gets before picking one up, but I imagine they’ll have no problem selling me on it once there’s compelling use for it. A definite interesting addition to the gaming experience, at any rate, not unlike the pedometers/”activity meters” they’ve been bringing in with things like Personal Trainer: Walking and the upcoming Pokemon Gold/Silver remake. New dimensions to gaming and new incorporation of real world daily life elements in gaming are always good things. Definitely way out on the edge in terms of hardware and software design.

Yeah, it’s smart to wait and see what Nintendo has in store. Besides, all we heard was an announcement. They could be developing something really interesting.

Hope to see some demos by the end of the year that show the potential of this device, and if anyone from Nintendo ever reads this never show off a gaming device ever again without the software to back it up !!!
