Monster Hunter 3 sells 583,000 copies in 2 days
August 5th, 2009 Posted in News, Posted by Valay, WiiFamitsu has posted a list of the top ten best-selling games of the week in Japan, which ranges from July 27 to August 2. Alongside that chart, first week sales numbers for Monster Hunter 3 have been divulged. We only have two days of sales since the game was released on a Saturday, but it still managed to top the charts. Monster Hunter 3 is, as expected, off to a tremendous start with 583,000 copies sold over the weekend. Those numbers makes the game the third best-selling home console third-party title in Japan. Taiko no Tatsujin Wii is at 583,000 units sold while Metal Gear Solid 4 has surpassed the 700,000 mark.

Wow, impressive but everyone knew this game is going to sell like crazy in Japan. Not only that, but they have the special black Wii and the Pro Classic released w/ it? Nintendo and Capcom teamed up very well. Too bad we don’t get that black Wii!

The game isn’t for sale here yet. Maybe there is hope in a black wii in the US for the game’s release. Why not?

Kind of an awkward troll there, eh, bob?
At any rate, this and Dragon Quest X are going to be huge in paving the way for much bigger Wii third party support in showing that with an actual effort, you can have much bigger and more profitable smash hits on the Wii than its competing platforms. (Especially considering that bob’s favored “Wii alternative” has had barely any profitable software, despite increasingly shrill insistence from its fanatics that it’s somehow turning into a success when even third parties have begun to realize it’s not worth supporting.)
This and Dragon Quest X are simply wake-up calls – take the Wii audience just as seriously as the other two (When frankly you should be taking it MORE seriously), release big, well-made high-budget titles on it – especially from established IPs – actually promote them, and you’ve got a recipe for sustainable profitability in the market.

I hope the new Final Fantasy CC for Wii is marketed like that as well, maybe we can get the main franchise back on Nintendo systems soon, now all they need for Wii to put the nail in the coffin is Kingdom Hearts 3 exclusive to Wii and it will be over !
