Wii price drop pretty much confirmed
September 18th, 2009 Posted in News, Posted by Valay, WiiIt was inevitable, wasn’t it? Earlier today during a conference call, the Wii’s price drop was apparently confirmed. As was expected, the new price of the console will be dropped to $199 on Sunday, September 27th. Because of the Walmart, Toys R Us, Target, and Best Buy ad listings, a widespread cut is probable. Nintendo has not made an official announcement yet, but it looks like all of the rumors can finally be put to rest.

That’s the worst-kept secret since the PS3 slim and the PSP Go!
But I guess Nintendo had to keep it a secret so people wouldn’t stop buying Wiis before the price drop.

The Wii really doesn’t need a price drop! What is that you say? Think about it, yes a lower price is an appeal but is it everything? I think the Nintendo crowd were always going to buy one, no matter the cost really, the initial low price was just a nice incentive for what most people were already willing to buy. Then there’s the new audience that Nintendo captivated, they were going to buy as well because it was the motion controls and the family friendly/new to gaming titles that the platform provides. I really don’t see a huge increase in Wii sales coming this season because of a lower price tag. NPD and Patcher tout that sales have slowed, well of course they have, they have to sooner or later when you’ve sold as many units as the Wii has, nearly everyone has one now.
