Rumor: nVidia’s Tegra System-on Chip to be a part of next DS hardware
October 13th, 2009 Posted in DS, Posted by Valay, RumorsRumor has it that Nintendo has already chosen nVidia’s Tegra System-on-Chip processor for its next handheld system. Because the DS’ hardware foundation comes from 16-bit and 32-bit ARM cores, the “next-gen DS” would most likely be backward compatible with the DS/DSi software. Nintendo is also rumored to be showing the system off for the first time sometime in late 2010. I should note that this information to be speculation at this point. If Nintendo were to use this technology, the upcoming system would be more powerful than the Wii.

wow , if this was really to happen then the big N is going on the right track , the current DS/DSi lacked power and if they wanted it to be backward compatible so it means it would have touch control which is again good for the big N and for us fans

This would be excellent news if it were true, but the information is in question for now.

This would be amazing, but I’m curious, how much would this affect the price? I guess it would be less than if it was done when the wii was released as technology and supplies improved, but I hope Nintendo doesn’t shoot itself in the foot like Sony did with the PS3.

How about the Wii? I think its the one that needs more power to at least support HD…

Until the rumor is confirmed, I will believe it. It would be make sense that the sucessor of the DS would be more technically powerful, and the technology for it is now affordable. Even though there is a large gap in graphical and processing power between handhelds and consoles, one day they will eventually be equal.

thomas-N did it not cross ur mind you may have answered ur own qestion…..tegra 1 = g-force 6 gpu and arm 11 cpu clocked between 600/800mhz…tegra 1 made more game, graphics centric could be near wii in power tegra 2 already touted as 4x tegra 1 and will use arm a9 cpus capable of 2.0ghz as well as dualcore/qodcores….a ion board from nvidea can run cod 4 with atom cpu a single arm a9 destoys it a highclock or dual, qod etc arm a9 simple destroys even dualcore top spec atom cpus a nintendoized dualcore arm a9 based tegra 2 with gforce 9 not 6 moble gpu spec would destroy both wii and ion at games, graphics and hd media at higher clock speeds set at lower clocks a dsi,psp destroying hand-held with ds lite battery life,,a docking station for mains power would allow a full pergormance mode and high clockspeeds presto a wii hd
YES THATS RIGHT A HYBRED HANDHELD/CONSOLE DS/Wii -hd

tegra sqeeze gamecube, xbox 1 performance based on arm 11 and mini g-force 6.
upgraded up-clocked version of tegra 1 would sqeeze you wii like performance.
tegra 2 is aiming for 4x tegra 1 with single, dualcore a9 cpu and mini g-force 9 based gpu now a upgraded and overclocked version of this could be anything from nvidea ion power to 4x ion
ion can run cod 4 pc steady at 30 frames lower settings a cod 4 built for ion probably double that a cod 4 built for a nintendoized tegra 2 would be like x360
who knows a 800mhz dualcore a9 tegra 2 for portable and a 1.6ghz speed for tv console mode in a docking station as wiiHD…ds-hd a dsi looking device that docks to a cut down smaller wii base hell the new ds could slip into a front slot benith the disc slot and look like wiis front end wiltst docked full back play of wii,ds,dsi games and downloads plus ds hd support wii hd support and HYBRED GAMES that play on the system both ways…….NINTENDO WILL DISRUPT WII,DS BUT SAME TIME SUPPORT THEM hybred console will further disrupt x360,pspgo,ps3 nintendo wins…GO BUY NINTENDO STOCK
