Dead Space Extraction apparently not selling so well

October 19th, 2009 Posted in News, Posted by Valay, Wii

Dead Space Extraction has only been out in the market for a few weeks, but it’s not off to a stellar start, supposedly. A member over at NeoGAF (who is thought to be Louis Gascoigne, a programmer at Visceral Games) posted a message on the forum, noting that “It is a shame nobody bought this.”

But there’s some unfortunate news for Wii owners. In June, EA Games label president Frank Gibeau stated that the company was “going to take a gamble and build that (mature) market” with Dead Space Extraction. As a result of the title’s poor sales so far though, EA’s decision to publish mature content for the Wii will be influenced, along with the SKU plan.

Well, honestly, it’s hard to pitch an on-rails shooter for a series that didn’t start out as such.

To top it off, you generally only get Arcade fans to go out and buy on-rails games new. EA dropped the ball when they took the cheap path by making a ‘guided first-person shooter’. That is the reality of it. When a company tries to get off cheap- consumers do the same.

Right Dai. Stop with the on-rails crap and give Wii owners a full fledge 3rd person shooter. Played and beat Dead Space Extraction. Not worth $50, too short, no online play. Other then that it was a good rental and thats all.

    These developers will never learn.

You guys have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. The game recieved great reviews, there was nothing “cheaped” about the experience and it’s worth every penny of $50.00.

    Online play isn’t everything.

I love this game! The story telling is very well done and gives you a real “I’m in a interactive movie” feeling. But you are right, with 6 to 7 hours the game is a little too short, even if it has a high replay value.

Dead Space has no stellar sales on PS3/Xbox too. And this is a Rail-Shooter, a genre that has no big fan community. What did EA expected?

A big name game like Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles sold over 1.5 Mio. RE: Darkside Chronicles will probably do the same, but a no name game like Dead Space?

While it is unfortunate that Dead Space Extraction did not sell well, I would not say that I care about this game. I am not a fan of “M-rated” games, and refused to buy them as a matter of taste.
