Miyamoto on Wii 2: It’ll probably be more compact and cost-efficient

October 20th, 2009 Posted in News, Posted by Austin, Wii

Excerpt from a recent interview with Popular Mechanics:

“With both the Wii remote itself and Wii MotionPlus, what we’ve been able to do is introduce an interface that is both I think appealing and at the right price for a broad audience. And while we don’t have any concrete plans for what we’ll be doing with hardware in the future, what I can say is that, my guess is that because we found this interface to be so interesting, I think it would be likely that we would try to make that same functionality perhaps more compact and perhaps even more cost-efficient.”

To be completely honest, Nintendo is probably nearing completion on the “Wii 2″ and Miyamoto probably knows about it. Nevertheless, what do you guys think? Would you be satisfied with a smaller, cheaper, more powerful Wii as Nintendo’s next console?

I don’t see the size of the current Wii being an issue, to me it would irrelevant if the new one is smaller.

I think with the biggest issue for the Wii2 would be for it to offer 720p or full 1080p resolutions. It needs to be backwards compatible with GCN and Wii games, if it is capable of uscalling these games to a higher resolution (much like we see with the dolphin emulator running games in 720p) then I’d almost be sold. I would also like to see true surround sound capability (5.1 – 7.1).

I think it’s a given that the controllers would already have motion plus integrated in them and offer perfect and true 1:1 tracking.

I would also like to see Netflix on my new Wii, along with DVD, movie file and Mp3 playback, right out of the box.

If I could get all of this for $300.00 or less, I would be a happy man.

Uh, did you guys read the quote?

He’s not talking about the Wii being smaller and cost efficient, but the Wiimote with Motion plus. He like, actually says that.

I get from that paragraph that next time they’re hoping to have built-in WM+ and that it won’t cost as much.

Still people; why do I always state the obvious… even if I know it gets on your bloody nerves! DON’T EXPECT ANYTHING FROM PAST 2012!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

It would not be surprise when Nintendo will be able to intergrate the Wii MotionPlus with the Wii Remote. I will also not be surprised that there will be more features in the Wii Remote in the future, such as the ability to engage in voice chat without the use of WiiSpeak.

you see i’m excited to see what Nintendo comes out with next because they always think outside the box and come out with something cool that I never even thought of.

As long as it’s more powerful than the 360 and PS3. If not, well, you gotta admit, it won’t really stand a chance. The only thing REALLY holding the Wii back is its graphics.
