Since EDGE uses the full scale system unlike most American publications, many American would assume that a game that received a 7/10 is “average.” Actually, it is not. The “average” score according to EDGE is 5/10. Games below that number are “below average,” so for New Super Mario Bros. Wii, its 7/10 would be equivelent to 8.0-8.5 using American rating standards. Very nice number for Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story as its 9/10 score would make it 9.5/10.

Thomas, it doesn’t matter what Edge says, a 7 is a “C” in America. 70% on your homework is a “C”. This is a common convention that is drilled into our heads from the very beginning of our education.

Edge reviews lost all credibility years ago; it’s so obvious that they’re bias so I doesn’t matter what they say or think – they have repeatedly demonstrated that their opinions are incongruous with objective gamers.

A bit off topic, but since you are discussing point scales, why can’t the reviewers just pack it in and move to a percentage scale already?
Most sites have a 10 point rating system but will hand out 7.8′s and alike thus making it a 100 point scale. Same goes for some sites that use a 5 point system and still manages to give scores of 4.25 which somewhat makes that a 100 point system as well.
Is the ‘devine power’ of the reviewer hidden in the decimals?
At least Edge sticks to their scale, but for others I don’t really see the point in a small scale system when they can’t carry it through. /rant

So, what are their criticisma about the game in regards to why they rated it as such? Never the less… I think they might be a bit too harsh on this game, its certainly better than the DS version, and looks like a definite return to the classics back on the NES and SNES consoles.
Ah well, at least Bowser’s Inside Story got a 9.
