Martinet: Miyamoto said Link isn’t getting a voice
November 15th, 2009 Posted in General Nintendo, News, Posted by Valay“I spoke to Mr. Miyamoto and said: ‘I wanna be Link, I wanna be Link,’ and Miyamoto told me that Link isn’t going to have a voice; he is going to stay the way he is. Of course Mr. Miyamoto is always right! The way it works right now is the way it is supposed to be. It’s the genius of Miyamoto and he knows just the right formula for making his games more fun and more exciting. For example in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, If things slowed down for Mario to express his inner feelings it just wouldn’t work and this way it keeps our hearts pounding with enthusiasm.” – Charles Martinet, voice of Mario
I don’t think I can imagine Link with a voice. I’m not completely against voice acting in general for the Zelda series, but hearing Link’s voice would probably ruin a great deal of the experience for me!

There’s just one problem with giving Link a voice: he’s gonna have to have something to say, which means he’s gonna have to have an actual personality.
And that would take some serious writing to pull off without screwing it up.

Make it Metroid Prime style. Everyone speaks except for Samus.

Link CAN’T have a voice but everyone else on the game should have a voice in my opinion.

I always thought it would be interesting if they made it clear in the plot that Link really WAS MUTE.

Link is and will always be the silent hero. He doesn’t protest, he doesn’t argue, and he doesn’t complain. He does what needs to be done. If Link got a voice, he wouldn’t be Link anymore.

Can you imagine link in real life? I can picture someone coming up to me saying, “That link guy never talks, but a couple drinks and its triforce this and zelda that, he never shuts the FU!”

Oh trust me when I say this; for it was probably what everyone was thinking about before posting their comments! If Link had a voice; it’d be as bad as those crappy CDi Zelda games! You can complain all your want; but the LOL quotes of “I can’t wait to bomb some Dodongo’s!” or “EXCUUSE ME Princess!” always get stuck in your head!
Sorry just stating the obvious!

All I care about in this interview is what Charles says about Kenji Kondo. Glad to see that man still getting respect.
