Aonuma on the possibility of remaking Ocarina of Time, other Zelda games

November 27th, 2009 Posted in News, Posted by Valay, Wii

Even though Ocarina of Time is currently available in many different forms, some players have asked for there to be a remake of the title. A number of fans wish for there to be a portable version for the DS while others are more interested in playing the game on Wii. But how does Eiji Aonuma feel about remaking the game? Well, he addressed the possibility of remaking Ocarina – in addition to other games in the series – in a recent interview.

“Well, I sometimes hear such requests from people who want to play Ocarina of Time on Wii, they ask us to remake it and take advantage of Wii technology. Whenever we have to think about the remake, we have to also think about the background, especially what kind of situation, what kind of period and time that previous game was played in, because be it Ocarina of Time or any other games, whenever they say they want to have a remake on whichever platform, they have some emotional attachment from playing that game at that particular time or environment.

That sort of background is always there when they talk about or request the remake of a game. We cannot afford to destroy that kind of emotional attachment. Still, even if we are going to take advantage of the improved technology, we have to have some breakthrough in the gameplay. That combination is not an easy one. Whenever we talk about this breakthrough technology, we come up with ideas that we would like to incorporate into the new Zelda franchise. So that’s the current situation and that’s the reason why we are not very aggressive in exploring the possibility of remaking the past Zelda series. If I can think of how do it, or any other inspiration comes to me, without destroying the emotional attachment people have to the past game, and I can make some great innovation or renovation on the remake, then I might be able to think about it further.”

Remakes are a great way for newer spoiled generations to experience some of the best games ever made.

For OOT, Id be happy with a DS release or a new play control wiiware version or something (new controls, widescreen would be all that is needed IMO).

NO NO NO NO; I think I can agree with some people who complain that Ocarina of Time is good as it is & we SERIOUSLY NEED NO REMAKES PERIOD!!! :(

A DS version has a slim chance for those who want one; but I don’t care! N64 games are hard to port to the DS though; like we all knew that! :P

We want new games; so concetrate on Zelda Wii 2010 Aonuma! ;)

And do I sare say this; Ocarina of Time is waaaayyy overrated anyways! ;)
e want something new & that’s not in the same style as Ocarina people! ;)

Zelda OOT is availible for the Gamecube(ablait hard to get but for 3000 Star in the Nintendo Bonus programm in Europe you can have it with OOT Master Quest) therefore i thinks its not necessary.

And its on the VC too…

Do it, that Oot is my favourite game of all time, imagine a Wii version. It would be awesome :D

A remake? Of OoT!?! Hell yes, please!
The game is awesome as it is, but there is no doubt that there’s so much that could be added, enhanced or done better.
    Gameplay enhancements with pointer/motion technology.
Sound and music rearrangement would be in place.
And not to mention the graphics department.
It could be amazing to replay the enhanced version of a N64 classic again and probably even more amazing for those who never played it.

But I get what Aonuma is saying.
The soul of the game should remain untouched in order for it to be a successful remake experience.

Totally not necessary to remake the classic. Its not worth the time, money and resources to totally remake a game which already reached its pinnacle 2 generations ago. It was a great game and now its time to make another great game this generation !!!

why not?! hell peep this. back then final fantasy 7 and metal gear were also the top games and metal gear got a fantastic remake on the game cube(ended up being one of that systems few tripple a titles) and square enix fans a clamoring for a chance to see clould kick action with updated graphics and maybe that special ending hint hint. why not make one of the greatest of all time even greater?? hell even kratos recently when to the ps3 with his ps2 adventures in his hd gory glory lol, bottom line more oot! hell we kinda sorta got a port of it on game cube(if u pre orderd wind waker) so i see no prob with it.

There is an OOT Wii remake, it’s called Twilight Princess…

Seriously, TP is like a love song dedicated to everyone that loves OOT. The only thing it didn’t have was time traveling.

I’d love a remake. Even if it just ran on the TP engine. I would be interested in finding out if I’d feel the same way (Read – In love) about the game if it were released in the current era.

New Play Control – The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker would be good too. They could even include that dungeon which was removed.

    Don’t be ridiculous, thomas.
TP feels nothing like OoT beyond it’s gameplay.
Music, plot, locations, bosses, supporting characters.
    Everything feels very different.

    I agree with Bowserone.
There’s nothing wrong with making a great title even greater.

i sorta agree with thomas and i sort of agree with lac

The thing about making a remake of OoT is that Aonuma knows how much everyone loved the original game. What he is pretty much saying is that if they do make a remake, depending on what “changes” they do, it might destroy the rep of the original one. Which is why I think they shouldn’t remake it and just leave it alone. But I’ll tell you right now, I’m already sick of all these new Zelda games with the wind waker art style.
