David Jaffe says he would change God of War to include structure from Zelda

December 28th, 2009 Posted in General Nintendo, News, Posted by Valay

David Jaffe, the creator of God of War, recently posted some messages on his Twitter account reflecting on what he would change in the series. Of course, the gameplay style of God of War is set in stone and Jaffe no longer works on the franchise. Nonetheless, Jaffe seems to appreciate Zelda and explained that he would mix God of War together with the structure from the Zelda titles on the N64 if he had the chance to make the first game now.

“If I were to do GOW now, I would do GOW meets ZELDA 64 structure. Much more interested in immersive games now vs. scripted experiences…But I think Zelda open world+GOW  puzzles/combat=pretty good mash. Many other games have mash’d that up…Not to imply I don’t love GOW. I DO very much. But I just would not design it the same way now, in 2010.”

I really don’t care that much, but it is an interesting idea being able to venture around Ancient Greek Mythology.

and thats why im glad he left after the first GOW.
GOW was repetitive, lots of backtracking, gave you no clues on where you need to go, and was so unforgiving.
prime example of the no clues, is you enter the room where you have to kill heaps of enemies in a short period of time otherwise the floor drops out.
there is 5 different rooms you can go to, besides that.
is there anything indicating which room you need to enter?
    NOPE!
is there anything indicating what you have to do when you enter the right room?
    nope!
i got into that room, and was killing enemies normally and could not figure out why the floor was dropping out, i tried jumping, rolling as the floor opened up, i tried constantly moving thinking the floor was opening up because i was standing in one spot.
i was just killing enemies for like 2 hours straight, than said f*** it and went onto another room not knowing i was doing the wrong thing.
thank god for internet guides otherwise id still be in that bit.

GOW 2 had none of that, everything was well explained, you ALWAYS! knew where you needed to go, and what you needed to do.
not saying GOW was a bad game, but ever since david left the games gotten allot better!

No thanks. I’d rather not base it on a game that hasn’t evolved in the last 15 years.

no thanks, i like god of war the way it is, pandoras boxes make it its own, it has enough features as it it. enough puzzles, enough everything doesnt need zelda to be the best game of 2010…..untill david jaffes TWISTED METAL comes out.

Problem is that kratos is on verge of killing everyone and his persona right now in current state wont suit solving puzzles and running errands, direct to action and epic moments, even uc2 kept the puzzle balance nicely with no fetch or hair pulling quests whatsoever

Idiots. God of War uses a fixed camera system. The camera leads you to your next objective…always. If you cant play a game that does that, good luck with any open world game. You fools are young. Idiotic.

Where in GoW does the floor fall out, other than the *spoilers* fight where you have to protect your pseudo-wife and daughter from yourself? Because if you seriously couldn’t figure out what was happening there, than you need to go back to kindergarten.

Cause GoW series is the one game where you easily know where you have to go. And I love that about it …

you guys are all stupid. GOW would be really cool with the zelda style. visiting different worlds like traveling to an open world hell or olympis(dont know if thats spelled right) with a few rpg elementsit could still be just as badass but idk if it was done right i think it could be really cool

    @Elite and old

23 years old isn’t old. Calling someone an idiot twice in one paragraph indicates that YOU are in fact an idiot.

    That is all.

    @ Name, lol you’d HATE Demon’s Souls :D

I like God of War just the way it is, and I like Zelda just the way it is. I’d hate for either of them to change…
