Naughty Dog praises the Wii

December 30th, 2009 Posted in News, Posted by Valay, Wii

Naughty Dog has worked on some pretty significant franchises such like Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter, and most recently, Uncharted. While the company has been busy with the PlayStation 3 in recent years, the company will not be developing a Wii title anytime soon, as they are a subsidiary of Sony.

With that said, Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells appreciates the system. In an interview, Wells was asked if Naughty Dog has been considering motion control for the future. In his response, Wells discussed some of his feelings regarding the Wii and complemented some of its software.

“I think right for the genre that we’re in? We really don’t have any interest in using the motion control to do a third-person action game. If we were going to make a motion controller game, I think we’d want to tackle it from the bottom up and make sure that we were designing the game around the motion control, the way the best Wii games are designed. I’m not a Wii hater at all, in fact, it’s probably one of my most played consoles in the house. I have a 3-year old son which might account for some of that [laughs], but I think Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort are some of the best experiences of this generation, honestly. They’re immensely playable and competitive, and just great fun with a group of people in the same room. Yeah, I think the PlayStation audience is totally for it, in fact, I bet you there are lot of closet Wii owners in the PlayStation community. If there is some really good software for that motion controller, I think it can be a big, big success.”

    Respect for Naughty Dog; this may sound like a backhanded compliment but usually you don’t find Sony giving out compliments to their opponents, because they’re too busy slinging mud.

    @Thomas
    Interesting you point Sony out when Nintendo rarely (if at all) gives any credit to any console rivals.

    Spelling mistake in the first paragraph – it’s Jak & Daxter, not Jak & Dexter.

    Anyway i totally agree with Naughty Dog, i own both a PS3 and a Wii and the Wii games that have been made with motion control in mind have been some of the best ones for the console. Wii Fit is a perfect example.

    I’m definetly looking forward to seeing what Sony have planned for their “Wand” controller.

    True, perhaps, but Nintendo doesn’t bash anyone either. Even when certain other companies suddenly reveal motion controls, there’s no mud slinging or bashing involved.

    Sony and MS associates, however? Talk about flame wars. Especially towards each other.

    I’m a wii station 3 owner and love it. It doesn’t get any better that little big planet and sp mario bros wii.
    I can play gta china wars on my dsi and gta4 on the ps3. And both systems are free for online. If you really have both systems the games are very close together in game play. The wii controller got great press but the ps3 controller does alotof the same things also.
    Little big planet is much like super mario bros but online play with lbp is great.

    I keep bringing up lbp because it is so buildable for levels that most games have tried but lbp succeeded. The mario mini march is close to it .
    I have a ps3 slim I would get rock band and gh games for it but I already have them with many dlcs on the wii and I got van halen free with gh5
    Now if naughty Dog made a cross platform for the wii / ps3 only it would kill and be bad ass
