SEGA’s thoughts on Wii HD, believes Nintendo can afford to drop price of the Wii
January 3rd, 2010 Posted in News, Posted by Valay, WiiThis is another snippet responding from Constantine Hantzopoulos on the most recent 4 Guys 1UP podcast. Hantzopoulos was asked if he would be interested in Wii HD (from a developer’s standpoint) and also whether he thinks Nintendo would want it. He indicates that while he isn’t sure what Nintendo’s game plan is, he acknowledges that profits are down for the company and instead could decide to lower the price of the Wii.
“The interesting thing is Nintendo, they make money off of every console they sell. I think one of the big things that we found out is it really is a mass market product where mom or whoever goes out, the 80% of the people out there who go out and buy a Wii box are happy with Wii Sports and they don’t really need another game. Or if they do need another game, they’ll buy Wii Resort because it comes with a free Wiimote or Wii Play…So, honestly I don’t know…You can obviously see that profits are down for Nintendo. I think the Wii is on its tail slide, unless they drop the price to like 80 bucks then you’ll start seeing it flying off the shelves. And I believe they’ll still make money if they drop it to 80 bucks…Point being is they have the ability to lower the price on the Wii [...] where Sony and Microsoft cannot do that.”

Hes right in a way. Software sales are not very high other than NINTENDO games. Even those games sales numbers are high but considering how many wii’s are out there games should sell better, but people really arent buying games other than Nintendo games like Mario Kart etc.
The Wii has the worst gaming library of any console in recent time. There are very few games worth getting and most are just you Marios, Zeldas and Metroid.

Really? Mot to be a fanboy, but it seems like you’re overlooking a few titles like:
Little King’s Story, Rune Factory: Frontier,
No More Heroes (and likely it’s sequel), Dead Space Extraction, de Blob, Excitebots, Wario Land: Shake It!, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, enhanced versions of Resident Evil 4 and Okami,

(Sorry, accidentally clicked the submit button)
Zack & Wiki, Punch-Out, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, MadWorld, The Conduit, World of Goo… The list goes on and on, even without your “Marios, Zeldas, and Metroids,” of which there are plenty. In fact, it’d be better if people stopped complaining about low sales and actually bought some of the good titles out there… Then maybe more companies would continue to deliver good games!

To be honest, if I were in the hardware business, Sega would be the last company in the world that I’d take advice from when it comes to consoles. The console business didn’t go down so well for them, remember.

HAHAHA stupid Sega, they are just jealous cause they never, in their entire console career ever came close to Nintendo’s fame and profits!!!!

The Wii compared to the other systems is casual. Nintendo has more or less stated that was there intent to widen their install base. The positive is there is a wide variety of experiences in terms of games available on the platform. The negative is there is a less of a focus on the small demographic of hardcore gamers.
Which means they have alot of casual gamers on the console and they need to be sold on most of those games you mentioned because they never heard of them and won’t take the time to keep up with the game library because they are casual. What they do instead is go with the Marios and Metriods beacause they are safe bets. Plus the advertising dollars for Wii seem to go to these games and Just Dance.
There is alot of opportunity on the Wii to more or less convert these gamers to hardcore gamers. I think Nintendo really isn’t planing on doing that though by not introducing gamers to other games.
Also its biggest asset is also a liability the motion control. It sure made the console more accessible by changing the controller. Honestly I have mixed feelings about a motion controller. I have not used the motion plus attachment but having the need for one indicates problem with the stand alone controller. Also having the nunchuk is nice both in your hands feels pretty natural. But when shopping for new games its a little confusing to check the back of the package for controller requirements. Honestly the wiimote should always come with a nunchuck would simplify things in my opinion.

Sega should tell it’s people to stop talking. Is this the same guy who said Madworld, Overkill, and TC all sold very well after realease? Third party titles do have a hard time selling on the wii, but Sega’s mature titles sell like crap no matter what system they’re on.
Maybe they should examine themselfves before passing the blame.
Gamesradar had a great artical of 2009 Wii games geting outsold by the same publishers crap. Too bad Sega puts out five peices of shovelware for quality title somone eles makes for them.

Sigh, once again another 3rd party saying “wah wah, our games don’t sell on the Wii, it’s the kids & moms fault”
lets face it, 3rd parties have completely missed the boat with the wii. They ignored it at the start, and continue it not give it the attention it deserves.
nintendo games sell for a reason – they’re good. i played madworld – nice style, but no depth and not worth playing after 10 minutes.
sega, don’t give me this shit about not being able to sell games on the wii if you’re going to put out nothing but turd.
would madworld sell on the 360/ps3? no. would house of the dead? maybe
