Nintendo Announces Healthy Holiday Sales Figures

As everyone looks ahead to the possibilities in store for 2010, Nintendo of America is looking to extend the glow of the holidays with some fresh December sales information. The following items were announced by Nintendo President Satoru Iwata in Japan:

* Although official U.S. sales data for December and all of 2009 will be announced by the NPD Group on Jan. 14, it appears that U.S. consumers responded enthusiastically to Nintendo’s Wii™ home console in December. Nintendo estimates that December sales in the United States will exceed 3 million units.
* Nintendo estimates that the portable Nintendo DS™ lineup, including the Nintendo DSi™ video game system, set a new all-time calendar-year U.S. sales record for any console or hand-held system.
* Nintendo software also continued to perform well. Although the NPD Group will provide the full sales numbers for each game, Nintendo estimates that lifetime U.S. sales of New Super Mario Bros.™ Wii are approaching 4 million. The game, which is the first Super Mario Bros. game to include simultaneous four-player action, launched in the United States on Nov. 15.

“The millions of people who bought Nintendo hardware during the holidays can look forward to enjoying great games on those systems now and in the future,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks for Nintendo DS, and Wii Fit Plus and New Super Mario Bros. Wii are all currently providing Nintendo fans with amazing experiences and fun adventures for the whole family.”

If the Wii did set a new sales record of three million or higher in December, it would be a new record for console monthly sales in the U.S. It beats the PS2′s 2.7 million in 2002. We may find out next week if this is true.

    AND AGAIN THE DOMINATION CONTINUES

LIKE ANY SANE PERSON AND TRUE GAMER WOULD UNDERSTAND

GOODBYE SONY SERIOUSLY JUST GO AWAY AND MICRSOFT GET BACK TO WINDOWS SERIOUSLY GO THE FUK AWAY

Too bad the Wii doesn’t have the software quality to justify it’s sales figures. Like any sane person or true gamer has already known for years. Maybe this year Nintendo can actually get a game to win an end – of – year award that isn’t “Best Wii Game”. Seriously, the past 2 GOTY winners haven’t even been available on the Wii – what does that tell you?

It tells me that ignorant idiots like the guy who doesn’t know how to turn Caps Lock off spend more time on the internet talking about how great the Wii is than they do playing it……i wonder why.

Oh wait – i forgot something. Goodbye Nintendo, come back when you can get a home console to sell 140 million. THAT is domination and right now, Nintendo isn’t even half – way there.

Wow, even video game sites dedicated to Nintendo are not immune to anti-Wii trolls (such as David).

By the way, the Wii is selling at a faster rate than the PS2 at this points its lifespan.

Actually i own a Wii, which is why i know what i’m talking about when it comes to software. Unfortunately, the internet is not immune to blind, obnoxious fanboy trolls like you and Captain Caps Lock (Although you’re probably the same person). The Wii will not reach 140 million sold in it’s lifespan, that’s just a fact.

LOL I SO FUNNY, I IMPLY THAT SALES=GREATNESS. hurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Also, David is a faggort. He doesn’t realize that the Wii has something to offer rather than Gears of Halo: Modern Grenades

Who let the 4chan idiots on here?

They’re just mad that the Wii basically won this generation in 1 year.

I just want to know how many New Super Mario Bros. Wii sold. If it didn’t sell 4.7 million copies, Nintendo should start firing people immediately in their production/distribution centers.
If Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 can sell 4.7 million copies in one day, and not sell out on Amazon.com, WalMart.com, etc., New Super Mario Bros. Wii should not have sold out and still be selling out on websites like Amazon.com, Walmart.com, and others.

And here lies the proof Nintendo’s win in this generation is guaranteed. And more to the point, fair evidence the console is neither a fad nor dying down in ‘hype’ or ‘popularity’.
