Reggie: Wii successor not happenning anytime soon

January 13th, 2010 Posted in News, Posted by Valay, Wii

“We are confident the Wii home entertainment console has a very long life in front of it.” – Reggie Fils-Aime

With the Wii selling the way it is, it wouldn’t make sense for Nintendo to release a successor to the console in the near future. The only possibility I can see happening is something like Wii HD, but Reggie essentially shot down that possibility a few months ago. But, who knows. Perhaps Nintendo will surprise us all and announce something at this year’s E3.

See, Nintendo’s in an interesting situation. I wonder if it’ll turn out similar to how Sony went into this generation. 3 or 4 years into the PS2′s launch, it obviously still had a long life cycle ahead of it. However, that doesn’t mean the PS2 and the PS3 couldn’t simultaneously be on the market. I suppose one could argue whether or not that’s caused problems for Sony or not. These are definitely interesting times.
