Capcom making Dead Rising “accessible” on Wii
September 4th, 2008 Posted in News, Posted by Valay, Wii“We definitely wanted to make Dead Rising on the Wii more accessible. You know, some of the elements in the original one were really cool but more targeted for the hardcore audience. So, things like the mini-game side missions that were in the original Dead Rising are incorporated into the actual narrative of the story now. So, you know, a lot of the hardcore users wanted that extra something to go back to whereas now you can play through the whole game and experience a lot of those different stuff that might have been missed originally.” – Capcom PR rep
The same representative also mentioned that there will be a “satisfactory number of enemies on screen to fight off against” in Chop Till You Drop.
I understand the partial meaning behind these words, though I can’t ever imagine Grandma Muriel playing Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop. Additionally, in some ways, these statements are a bit disheartening for hardcore Wii owners. Capcom is deliberately making Dead Rising on Wii more casual because of the majority audience that owns the system. Even though Dead Rising is a very hardcore game, Capcom still wants it to appeal to every type of Wii owner.

Majority audience?
Please tell me who this majority audience is? Do you have some sort of data that shows who this majority audience is? I’d like to see it.

Well, those last few lines are just my opinion.
No, I don’t have any concrete data in front of me.
However, look at it this way. Carnival Games is selling like hot-cakes, and I’m pretty sure that’s not the hardcore gobbling up that title.
Companies always talk about the importance of the casual audience, too. The Conduit was originally intended to be a casual game, Ubisoft mainly produces casual content for Wii owners, and even some of Nintendo’s own titles are more on the casual side, at least compared to what they used to be.

Where are the zombies?
it looks like the mall is empty….
i know the xbox can handle more zombies at one time but i counted no more than 10 zombies at one time in the video… i want to know how much zombies are in the corridors underneath the mall

I give respect where it’s deserved, and disprespect where it’s deserved.

Looks like fun and that’s what I like. Hell, I was happy with Red Steel. Thought that was totally fun and worked great. Love the hard core games and I think this will be satisfying. Conduit thought just can’t get here soon enough.
