Rumor: DS 2 dev kits sent out by Nintendo, may launch this year
February 15th, 2010 Posted in DS, Posted by Valay, RumorsThere have been a bunch of rumors lately surrounding new Nintendo hardware over the past few weeks. One employee from a major publisher even went as far as to say that Nintendo might unveil a new platform at the Game Developer’s Conference, which will be taking place in just a few weeks.
Now rumor has it that Nintendo has started sending development kits for their next DS system. These kits have, apparently, been received by numerous studios already. Additionally, if further speculation is to be believed, the company may start selling the hardware before the end of 2010. Nintendo declined to comment about the latest batch of rumors, but perhaps the DS 2 will be officially announced at GDC or E3 if the company intends to release the system this year.

OH MY GOD; PLEASE PEOPLE… STOP FOLOWING RUMORS for the love of pete’s sake!
There won’t be any big announcements about a DS sucessor anytime soon; and that goes for anything at his upcomming February 24th conference!

josh this is so possible, the first ds was out in 2004, its been what 6 years now. but i dont think we are getting anything from that feb conference

I’d actually be very suprised if DS 2 doesn’t release this year. I’m not sure why people are so sceptical.

It all makes sense now, there is a new Generation of Pokémon coming and we have rumours of a new DS, that is totally logical.

I really don’t think so since the DSi was just released last year and the DSi XL is coming in a few months. Bring out a new DS would be a big FU to the people who bought a DSi.(I am one of those people)

heh foolish fool who is foolish. Buying a DSi (and yes im playing phoenix wright)
I agree DS2 Dev kit Rumors + Iwata’s “mistranslation” + New Pokemon Generation = Confirmed Hardware in my book

Certainly seems possible – the DS is showing its age in someways and as jj_olli said – there’s a new generation of pokemon coming and it’s very possible that they intend to place it on the DS successor.
Although the DS shows no sign of slowing – Nintendo are probably aware that Sony could make a move before them and more importantly – compete with Apple.

The DSi LL has already been released in Japan (and beginning to outsell the DSi) and the Western version (XL) has yet to be released this year, and now there are rumors of the true successor of the DS? If the rumors turn out to be true, Nintendo needs to give a reason for releasing the so-called “DS 2″ this year. It is possible that word of the DS successor is simply its annoucement, not that it will be released this year, as the DS is already doing so well.

I hope this isnt what the 24th is about. Nintendo always seems to announce some new hardware instead of some kinda much desired game, like starfox or pikmin 3 among others. I would just like to hear them say, “We are looking into the possibility of expanding the StarFox franchise.”

Also the DS is now in direct competition with the iTouch. I know my lil cousins all talk about how old the DS is and the iTouch is the only thing that matters these days.
Nintendo needs to surpass the iTouch and blow it away.

I don’t think we’ll see anything at the conference, but I do believe the Tegra DS2 rumors that are floating around. I believe that Nintendo’s E3 2010 will reveal the new portable game system. I say it will launch in Japan during 2010 and in the US in 2011.

It’s all about choices in the gaming market maybe someone like don’t have a DS and don’t plan to get one till I’m really sure and now maybe a DS2 comes out.I would buy it all of these DS’s are just iterations small upgrades from the previous.Having a full scale all new DS2 would be worth a buy in my book.

To all the people talking about DSiXL, it’s just like a different size Tshirt. It’s no better or worse than the DSi, it’s basically the same. It’s just another option, it’s not an evolution.

it would be a waste of time make the first one then i thought the DSi would be last year but now this year another i dont think so the DSi just released
By IronROB on Feb 16, 2010
Assuming for the moment that this is true,…why ruin a good thing right now Nintendo? Making a third DS already…not good(the first being the original, the second being DSI, the DSlite is just the original in small size and brighter screen).

If the DS 2 was launching this year then it would have already been announced. An E3 reveal is a high possibility but if that is the case it won’t be hitting retail until Q2 2011 at the earliest.
