Miyamoto talks about potential Wii Vitality Sensor support in Zelda Wii

“Whenever we are going to use any new device it is possible to expand the appeal to those who are new to the videogaming world. At the same time, however, it is also fun to think of ways in which we might apply that new technology to existing forms of gameplay – just like the way we are working on the new Legend Of Zelda together with Wii Motion Plus. As you become more scared, the enemies become even tougher. So maybe you might like to ask me to incorporate the Vitality Sensor into Zelda so that as you become more scared, the enemies become even tougher.” – Shigeru Miyamoto

Hm…That sounds like it could be pretty interesting. Although, I’d rather see how the game would play like in-person before making a real judgment on the idea.

Imagine having to lower your heart rate to get past some kinda guards or something. Or meditating to open a door. I dont know, could be neat.

Wiispeak has been out a good while and they dont seem to be using that, so… Wiispeak could do more than just online chat I bet.

I don’t think it would work well, it would seem way too imprecise.

Badass! Seriously guys, show the vitality sensor some love. The same people who said the wii remote is a gimmick are now eating their words. I would love to see this kind of implementation of the vitality sensor in Zelda wii. I think Nintendo could pull it off and put it to good use in the game.

I think he must mean that if your pulse is calm (NOT scared) THEN the enemies should be tougher to make you scared and not the other way around. This would be like an automatically tuning difficulty level. I would’ve loved this feature in Resident Evil Wii. But…the vitality sensor really should be integrated into the controller or one could cheat by making a calm friend hold it while you play.

How would you hold the vitality sensor while playing Zelda, though? There aren’t exactly any spare fingers to put the sensor over.
