Rumor: Developers claim 3DS processing capabilities surpass Wii, close to PS3/360

June 5th, 2010 Posted in 3DS, Posted by Valay, Rumors

“Several developers that have experienced 3DS in its current form have reported, off the record, that it has processing capabilities that far exceed the Nintendo Wii and bring the device with abilities that are close to HD consoles such as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. According to several developer sources, the 3DS device is not using the NVIDIA Tegra mobile chipset, a rumor that’s been floating around since 2009.”

I’m having a hard time believing this one. Looking back at previous portables, they’ve never really surpassed their console “counterparts” in terms of processing power. I think we’d be lucky if the 3DS’ power matched the GameCube, though I’d be very glad if it was more powerful than that! We’ll have to see which specs Nintendo reveals at E3.

Terrible news if its true. The battery life would be atrocious on that thing.
I bet this is just IGN building hype just for the sake of it and/or to create false expectations.

i dont see how commonsense=terrabnle news

tegra ,ion, iphone,ds,dsi whats the link here commonsense SOC system on chip

ati/amd= fusion so if 3ds has a fusion soc whos to say it aint ps3 power and whos to say at this point its not a HYBRID CONSOLE/HANDHELD one speed for moble from battery and a higher speed for tv out

OR JUST HUGE POWER FOR HANDHELD AND A EVEN MORE POWERFUL FUSION FOR Wii 2

its called thinking outside of the box

i think these guys need a update on system on chip malstrom boythere tiny minds cannot handle the poccabillitys fusion at the low end will match ps3 at the high end destroy it jeeesssss you people are behind

not saying its true like malstromboy im saying its tech possable AKA FUSION

If the batteries last long enough, this will be an amazing handheld.

I have a netbook with a 10 inch screen running windows 7 and it gets over 9 hours battery life. So I guess anything is possible. I remember having a laptop that is half as powerful as this netbook that only got 3 hours battery life on a good day.

This isn’t even feasible technologically at a price that would be marketable. There’s pretty much no way this is true. Even if it were possible at a marketable price, this is completely opposite of the direction Nintendo takes with their hardware.

Remember IF the 3DS is almost as powerful as the 360/PS3 it will NOT look like that. The 3DS has to render 2 images at the same time for the 3D affect.

I would be very cautious about these rumors and the annonymous sources, as they more likely to be untrue in the end. I would like confirmation on these claims and know the names of the developers that are making them.

wen rendering 3d out video the second image does not reqiure as much power and there could be a 3d chip system dedicated to this function

and people saying otherwise are you sugesting ps3 has a gpu and ram upgrade for 3d because it doesnt so were does the ps3 get this extra 3d power

so in 3d video out the 3ds is MORE POWERFUL THAN PS3 because thats how your making it sound

its ps3 power for 3d so its a ps3 beater then as its doing more like 480p at 4 inches vs ps3 720p to 1080p 40 inches

so the 3ds is a super power house

peole love to post with out 1st thinking

gamecube and wii have 3d video out left eye right eye built into the gpu theres endless possabilitys

now there saying a japan based company is suppying the 3d acceloration witch could mean gpu or video out or both

jesus argentina in world cup and e3 also my life is good lol

Geez, so suddenly graphics on a Nintendo system matters to all you “graphics aren’t everything” people who thinks this is true.

DMP A JAP COMPANY DO A SCALABLE GPU RANGE KINDA LIKE THE DREAMCAST AND IPHONE TYPE GPUS AND EACH GPU CAN BE ADDED TO ANOTHER IN SCALABLE FORM SO ONE CORE TO SAY MAX 24 CORES ITS VERY MUCH LIKE THE GPU RUMORED FOR PSP2 AND FUTURE IPHONES ETC

LOTS OF FIXED FUNCTION STUFF TILE RENDERING AND SHADERS ,IF TRUE NINTENDO HAVE BY PASSED NVIDEA AND ATI AMD AND BUILT THERE OWN SOC SYSTEM ON CHIP USING ARM CPU AND THESE DMP GPU CORES IF THE WHOLE THGING IS SCALABLE IN CLOCK SPEED AND SWITCHING ON AND OFF CORES IT COULD BE DUAL SPEC I.E HIGH P[OWER FOR TV OUT HD AND A LOWER SETTING FOR HANDHELD

ENDLESS POSABILITYS NOT LOOKING LIKE AMD ATI FUSION NOW ITS CUSTOM ITS A NINTENDO DESIGN
