Reggie comments on Activision’s Blur commercial

June 19th, 2010 Posted in General Nintendo, News, Posted by Valay

Remember the Blur commercial Activision put out a few weeks ago? You know, the one that was poking fun at Mario Kart. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime was asked about it on the latest GameTrailers TV. Based on what he said, it doesn’t seem like he was too impressed.

“You know, God bless the folks at Activiison. They have a sense of humor. I do not…They are doing GoldenEye for us. You know what? Bobby and the team at Activision are fantastic partners, but no I don’t like my kids being picked at. I don’t think any proud parent would like their kids being picked at.”

Well, you should be able to understand Reggie’s standpoint on this. They’re taking a shot at one of his companies best sellers! I doubt he would be very happy about that, so his reaction is to be expected.

“Racing like a big boy” would involve using a real car.

When I first saw that commercial, I was insulted. I love Mario Kart. I have for years. I know for a fact that a large chunk of my graduating class (2010) love and play Mario Kart. It’s not a kiddy game, it’s actually a pretty hardcore game. You don’t need realistic cars for a racing game to be good. I never liked realistic racers.

Once Reggie screws the bolts into his neck that is.

    “FIRE BAD!!! FIRE BAD!!!”

@Tim Very true, there are so many racers that try to have Mario Kart shine. Like Sonic and Sega All Star, Modnation, etc.

I kind of liked it, particularly the pink Barney clone lol

    God bless Reggie Fils-Aime.

He should take it as a compliment. Mario Kart needs no introduction so of course they are the ones developers are gunning for.

Lol you were insulted? Joke, right? This is the consumer industry. This is how competitive industries work. Why would you be insulted? It doesn’t even involve you. They’re just selling a product. That’s the problem with these things. People get too attached to products, to the point that they feel the need to defend them or stand up for their existence.

Exactly. Everyone knew the commercial was referring to Mario Mart. If youre in that position, youre doing something right. Reggie has spewed a lot of excrement himself about the “big boy” consoles being all power and graphics with the same old games. Thats just funny.

    LOL

    HAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHA

Well I love kart racers too (especially Mario Kart Wii, Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing and ModNation Racers, this console gen has some of the best) and I found the commercial more entertaining than insulting. Learn to take a joke, guys. It isn’t like they threatened to show up at your house and stab your family if you didn’t like their game.

    “race like a big boy!,
    Rated E10+”
    fail on activisions part
    LOL

Well, seeing as Mario Kart is one of, it not the, best selling racer around, I’d say that is the better game available. It is original, as who wants ANOTHER realistic racing game. Also, the most characters created in mod nation are Mario’s, and there’s the fact that Nintendo never feels the need to pick on Sony and Microsoft’s (many) negative points, but games on those consoles almost feel threatened by Nintendo. Fail on their part!!!

wow reggie just addmitted that by saying i dont like my kids being picked at that the wii and most of its games are ment for kids

  21. By uiruu on Aug 24, 2012

    @darealz

Yes, he did. Is that news to you? The wii and mario kart are “meant” for kids. But at least it’s not all pretentious and self-important, claiming to be for “big boys”, when it’s really just a Mario Kart clone with realistic cars. Nintendo makes games with sensibilities a child enjoys, because we ALL enjoy those sensibilities. Fun. That’s all games should be.
