It is quite a surprise that Super Mario Galaxy 2 fell only about 26,000 copies from last month, while both versions of Red Dead Redemption fell by at least 200K copies. And interesting enough, Just Dance has returned to the NPD software chart. New Super Mario Bros. Wii has been in the chart for now eight months.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be number 1 in July. It’s over 3.3 million worldwide already….

i bet a lot of people are gonna say the xbox 360 only sold so many was because of the old xbox 360 owners. which is kinda funny because im sure the samething happened when the ps3 slim came out. but who cares either way. awesome numbers for all of the consoles. glad they are all still doin so well. i know im gonna get a new xbox 360 and give my son my old one.

The difference is that the new PS3 was cheaper. It’s safe to assume that invited new customers and people who had been waiting all that time for a price drop. The new xbox is the same price.

@mattm
Well the difference there matt is that the slim for ps3 came out with less features than the original and looked alot duller.. The only advantage was a price cut. It put the ps3 finally at a reasonable price point… So its very probable a majority of the people who bought it were newcomers.. Saying a die hard ps3 fan would buy a slim, would be like someone who owns an elite buying an arcade version just to have it… Don’t see it happening… MS didn’t really slash anything on the slim they made it their most expensive console… so i don’t see it being attractive to the less die hard enthusiasts.. people might go and foolishly buy the arcade console at the lower price… but most xbox 360 slim purchasers will be people who already planned on buying a 360 elite or those die hard fans wanting to upgrade to the cooler looking console with a couple extra features.

it’s funny how this site shows ps3 sales as barely making a dent on the npd sales chart every month which ps3 is clearly doing better then this “fake” npd chart is showing.

I’m sure many people are repeat buyers, but there’s no denying that the slim attracted some new comers. Those causal gamers that are interested in the Kinect will be picking up the slim as well (hence the MS marketing “It’s Kinect Ready). Also, the PS3 still doesn’t seem to be closing the gap (after their surge with the release of the PS3 slim). MS still sells more units when it comes to multi-plat games:
This month
Red Dead Redemption (360) – 582.6K
Red Redemption (PS3) – 380.3K
Last month
Red Dead Redemption (360) – 945.9K
Red Dead Redemption (PS3) – 567.1K
Total 360 – 1527
Total PS3 – 947
Diff = 580
MS has sold 61% more units in the last 2 months for this game than the PS3. The same or better can be said for popular games like MW2 and Madden 2010. Why is this important? As long as MS has the power to push games, developers will focus their attention on games that can go multi-plat because that’s where the money is…
