5 future Wii games to keep your eye on

Yesterday I went through the list of games I want to buy from now until the end of the year. It astounded me to find out that all but two are Wii games. It’s true, there are five games coming out from now until the end of the year that are highly interesting titles. This would mark the largest growth of my collection since I bought the Wii in which I bought two games at the same time. Most of you can probably figure out what these five games are going to be, but for those who don’t? I’m more than happy to talk about them.

Kirby’s Epic Yarn

Release Date: October 17, 2010

I’ll admit it; I have never played a Kirby game. The only exception is some title on the Game Boy (I can’t even remember its name). The closest I’ve gotten to Kirby is playing him in Super Smash Bros. This Kirby game though has charm and honestly, looks like it could be pretty fun. The graphics style is awesome and it looks pretty creative with how the puzzles are formed and how you progress through the game. Granted, I know nothing about the story of the game (something about a magic sock?) but I don’t think a Kirby game needs an amazing story in order to be fun. Then again, do most Nintendo games?

Donkey Kong Country Returns

Release Date: November 21, 2010

Same with Kirby, my experience with Donkey Kong has been limited to SSB (though in DK’s case there’s Mario Party as well). The game looks like a classic side-scrolling platform (similar to Kirby no doubt). In my opinion though, there’s nothing wrong with that. Like most Nintendo games, as long as it’s fun in the most general sense of the word, then it’s worth the purchase. The added bonus of co-op adds that extra layer of fun when playing with a friend or family member.

Disney Epic Mickey

Release Date: TBA 2010

So this is only game on my list without a firm release date, but I’m rather confident it will be a Christmas release title. When the first concept art for this game came out I had widely different expectations than what the game really is, but sometimes it’s ok to be wrong. While I would have loved that game I originally thought of, Epic Mickey looks like it’s going to be fun in its own right. The platforming looks awesome, along with the paintbrush which with the Wii-mote couldn’t find a better match. My only concern is the lack of voiced characters, but one can hope that the story will not suffer because of it.

Metroid: Other M

Release Date: August 31, 2010

So this game is already out, but barely. Even so, I’m still really looking forward to trying Metroid out (I will be purchasing the game tomorrow). Unlike the other two Nintendo characters above, my experience with Samus in the SSB series has mainly been limited to the GameCube titles. They were fun, no doubt about it, but the prospect of something fresh and new is too good to pass up. Nothing pleases me more though than the fact that all the characters have voices now. No matter how hokey the script, a voiced character is always better than just plain text in my opinion. That, and Samus is rather easy on the eyes now.

GoldenEye 007

Release Date: November 2, 2010

I know for a lot of people this isn’t a game on their list. I am too big of a Bond fan to pass this up, though. While it may not be the prettiest game ever, it still has the potential to be really fun. That’s all I’m expecting from this game. The fact that it has local multiplayer is a huge draw for me, and my friends who are starting to get into the “business” of hosting LAN parties. Getting a bunch of people together to play this game can only bring epic times, no? I’m also glad they’re using Daniel Craig this time around and “re imagining” the game’s story for a more modern age (has it been that long?). Either way it will help tide me over until MGM gets their act together and manages to release another Bond movie.
