3DS sells big in Japan following price drop
August 15th, 2011 Posted in 3DS, News, Posted by ValayThe 3DS has managed to obtain some much-needed sales momentum following a significant price drop in Japan last week. According to Radio Nikkei, the system moved 207,000 units for the week of August 8. That’s the second best-selling week for the handheld.
Nintendo’s latest portable was priced at 25,000 yen at launch. On August 8, the price was lowered to 15,000 yen.
Starting in September, Nintendo will offer ten free NES titles to early 3DS adopters. An additional round of GBA games will be available later this year.

Good news for Nintendo

This is very nice, and the numbers may get bigger when high-profile games are released as well as the upcoming holiday season in Japan. Contrary of what the naysayers think, the 3DS will not be a failure even if it sells less units than the DS.

Enterbrain (Famitsu’s publisher) has reported that the 3DS sold 214,821 units in Japan, higher than the Radio Nikkei report.

Good news for Nintendo, but also great news for everyone that wants more good games on the 3DS – if this momentum keeps up developers/publishers will finally stop worrying; the 3DS’ major problem at the moment.
