Link’s variety of shields in Zelda: Skyward Sword
September 19th, 2011 Posted in News, Posted by Valay, WiiNintendo is taking shields to the next level in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Unlike previous titles, Link will be able to obtain a variety of shields through upgrades and other means.
Thus far, quite a few of them have been shown in trailers and other videos. It’s possible that you might have missed a few of them, as they’ve been quietly featured in some recent footage.
No worries, though! In the gallery above, you can find images of most of the shields shown up to this point.

The only thing that could have made this perfect is if the final shield was the cross shield from Zelda 1 and 2 !!!

I love the classic Hylian Shield design of SS Link; but that Purple Iron Shield is pretty fancy!

If you take the yellow design from the purple shield of Link in the shop and you take the yellow design from the purple shield when he’s fighting and you put them together and make it red you have the red bird design on the Hylian shield !!!

Hopefully there is some form of OOT mirror shield. That shield was classy.

I noticed this too watching all the trailers. I hope there’s more to all the different shields other than just durability.

Me too, as long as they don’t add stats and other numbers. That always kinda puts me off RPGs. I’d rather they use a colour scheme or some other way than just numbers.

I was thinking something like, for example the wooden shield with the metal edge gives a stronger shield bash or maybe some shields knock-back enemies more when you block attacks with the right timing.

Oh yeah definitely, they don’t need numbers or any indication for how strong a shield is, as long as every update is an upgrade and you notice small differences like that.
Goddamn, I’m leaving about 2 weeks after this comes out. How on earth will I manage to beat it in that time, Twilight Princess took me like a month.

I like the variety of shields, but I must admit not all of them have good designs.

I guess a more intricate design is a good way to tell the strong ones from the weak.

Well at least it helps add more time to the quest by trying to upgrade your gear to the max, kind of like the bug and bird collecting. Its nice to have things to do on the side when you don’t want to just go from dungeon to dungeon

ok starting today i am not going to read anymore zelda articles lol I dont want it to be ruined…I remember when i first got wind waker i never saw anything about it and then when i played it i was blown away:) it holds a special place in my gamers heart

I think the only part of Twilight Princess that was ruined to me (after reading all the previews/watching all the videos), was the Forest Temple because I had seen a walkthrough for most of it. Most of the trailer scenes didn’t even make sense until I saw them in the game (when you take them out of context it’s really hard to puzzle them back together). While I regret seeing some stuff (like the flooded forest), lesson learned: don’t watch walkthrough videos.

Nintendo. Extending your games to a much longer length than it really needs to be. Thank you! We need side quests, or we’d be out of a game in a week or two.

That’s very interesting! I hope they do more than just add more durability to the shield. I’d like something cool like… a hard to attain, but slowly re-fills your hearts shield. Something that has explosive shield bashes! (Kinda like the Bomb mask in MM) Really though, I’m sure w/e they do, it’ll be great
