Capcom explains Resident Evil: Revelations’ $50 price tag

November 1st, 2011 Posted in 3DS, News, Posted by Valay

Did you know that Resident Evil: Revelations will cost fifty bucks? I personally had no idea until a few moments ago, but that is the game’s actual price tag. That’s about $10 more compared to your average 3DS title.

Capcom believes that the increase in price is justified. A spokesperson said:

“Resident Evil Revelations is an all new Resident Evil title with over 20 hours of gameplay, and cutscenes beautifully rendered in fear-inducing 3D. A true console experience on a handheld device, Resident Evil Revelations is an epic title that offers both a single-player campaign for that classic survival horror gaming experience, and an additional RAID mode that can be played cooperatively or single player. To handle all of that data Resident Evil Revelations requires a 4GB cartridge, resulting in a higher price point.”

Although we’ve heard that Revelations is very comparable to the console entries, you have to wonder if this is a smart move. No matter how great it may be, selling a portable game at $50 could be tough.

tbh i think thats a fair price. i rather pay 50$ for a great game than 40$ for a mediocre game ( that doesnt get called out on price cause all games are that much )

That is going to hurt their sales dramatically, I don’t doubt this will be a great game, and the graphics are amazing for a portable, but the extra memory cost shouldn’t be pushed to the comsumer! That is something they have to factor in when making the game from the get go. Nintendo is not charging more for their games and we know those are quality titles, given we don’t know their memory sizes but if Nintendo has a set price for their own games, 3rd parties would be wise not to go above them. I will just wait for the price to eventually drop now before getting it. I mean Gameboy games used to be $30 dollars, DS games went up to $35, and now 3DS games are $40, so pushing a 3rd party game to $50 isn’t wise this early in its life.

Apparently the maximum size for 3DS games at the moment is 8GB. I hope developers don’t follow the same logic as Capcom since I don’t think consumers will want to shell out $70 for a 3DS game regardless of the quality.

This is way too much for a game on a handheld system. Capcom needs to get their minds straight.

I won’t get it now. I won’t support them if they are going to hike prices. I warn you if you do, this, will become a trend. I absolutely want this game, but I won’t stand for such action as this. Bigger cartridge size is just justification.

I’m not happy about it but if it’s good i won’t really mind paying 10$ more

I am still getting the game, just going to wait till they realize that there sales are suffering because of the higher price tag and wait for them to drop it. If people run out an buy this day one, then consumers are setting themselves up for all new 3rd party games to hike up prices, don’t be stupid just be patient and wait it out. This will teach Capcom how to treat their customers.

Not sure how long it will last, but you can pre-order the game on Amazon and save $10. ;)
