New Zelda title being prepared for 3DS, Majora’s Mask remake still possible
November 4th, 2011 Posted in 3DS, News, Posted by BrianNow that development on The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword has finished, what lies ahead for the series? Producer Eiji Aonuma answered that exact question in an interview with Portuguese gaming site MyGames.
Some fans have been asking for a remake of Majora’s Mask for the 3DS, but it sounds like Nintendo has something completely new in store for the system.
Aonuma told the site:
“We are already preparing a new game, a game in the series for the Nintendo 3DS, but don’t think that it is a direct sequel to the Zelda titles released on DS. We are talking about a new game, but it takes much of what has been done on previous handhelds.”
So, does this news rule out Majora’s Mask for 3DS? Absolutely not. In fact, Aonuma revealed that he’s spoken to Miyamoto about the idea, though Nintendo has decided to make a completely original game because it didn’t seem right releasing two remakes so quickly.
“It’s something I’m asked about often and I assure you that it is something I’ve spoken to Miyamoto about. But recently we released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D as a remake. We are considering the idea, but it didn’t seem right to launch a remake one after another, so the next Zelda game on 3DS will be original.”
Thanks to Captain N for the tip; thanks to Tim for providing a more accurate translation!

Let’s hope they get started on that remake when they finish the new one.

I think a MM remake is an easy way for Nintendo to make a fortune at very little cost to them. Turn it over to Grezzo for a year, and it’ll sell at least a million, even at $40.
But, I’ve always sort of unfairly judged MM harshly. I thought the 3 day time limit was really punishing and it didn’t allow you to wander around and explore. So, if they were to remake it, perhaps they could do something about that. Compared to OoT which was peaceful and slow-going, the time-limit in MM was really jarring. I think that’s why it’s not given as much credit or recognition as some of the other post-3D Zelda’s.

Calling it now – a new Four Swords.
The DSiWare release was just to remind people that it exists.

I agree with you sperrico. MM never felt right to me, because at the end of the day, nothing Link did mattered. You could beat the dungeons, re-set time, and what.. the Goron’s are still frozen, the Deku’s water is still poison, and ya.. It never had that sense of, hey, I just saved “Hyrule”! It was too pressured, and to short to me.

Sorry, but I really REALLY do NOT want a Majora’s Mask remake. Even though I love the game to pieces, we need an original Zelda for the 3DS, and I’m glad that’s what we’re getting. I was disappointed with Ocarina of Time 3D, and I still believe that the N64 version is better in many ways. I also want to say, that it seems like everybody is “remake happy” nowadays. Back when I was a kid, we didn’t get remakes, we got new games. But now, it seems like every other game released is either a port or a remake. I say, let’s set remakes aside for a while and focus on new games.

Well, people now are not as original as they were before, also people get really nostalgic, so they just mooch off of there nostalgia.

I want both =] would much rather play a remake on the 3DS than the Legend Of Zelda’s Collector Disk I have for gamecube right now.

good. a lot of people want a port but its enough with that. but i did like ocarina.

Well, Grezzo works on the ports anyway. I wouldn’t want them developing the new Zelda. But maybe an eShop/WiiUware one

Whatever this new Zelda game is, it better come in a special edition with golden 3DS cartridge. It’s been far too long since we’ve seen that happen.

I cant believe people still complain about the 3 day cycle thing, there was a song that let you slow the flow of time, i think thats good enough to finish a couple of sidequests + explore a lot of the map + maybe even finishing a temple before the end of the day

Personally, I really liked MM for Nintendo. But I think it’s time is up. What I want to see Nintendo make a new Zelda game (3DS or Wii makes no difference to me) but only with a more romance based game. I loved TW and SS’s adventure, but I couldn’t help feel that it was a shame finishing each of the games and not having an after game objective of sorts. I want to be able to keep playing and having fun after the game is complete, but with a little more romance. A MM remake would still be awesome though, I think that game was great!
