Capcom lowers Resident Evil: Revelations price to $39.99

January 27th, 2012 Posted in 3DS, News, Posted by Valay

Capcom’s decision to sell Resident Evil: Revelations at $49.99 in the United States stirred negative feelings among fans. Essentially, the company explained that the 4GB cartridge led to a higher price point.

Today, however, Capcom confirmed that they have reduced Revelations’ price to $39.99.

A company representative said:

“Late last year we announced the console-sized adventure that is Resident Evil Revelations would arrive on a 4GB card instead of the standard 2GB card; this increase in memory size led to an increase in price as well, raising the retail cost to $49.99. And while we’re confident in the game’s value at that price (and the reviews reflect that sentiment as well), we’re also exceedingly pleased to say that after weeks of effort, we’ve been able to lower the price to $39.99.

“Since the announcement of the $49.99 price point, we’ve spent weeks looking for a way to bring your cost down to standard 3DS pricing. Today we can finally confirm we were successful in this, and hope the reduced price encourages even more people to check out this strong entry in the Resident Evil canon.”

Those of you who were on the fence about Revelations may want to really consider picking this up now. Plus, the eShop demo will give you a great idea about what you can expect in the game!

Very good decision Capcom….I myself said I would wait for a price drop before buying it…..because as good as the game might be…..a portable game should never be the same price as a home console game. So you have now got one of your fans back by making the right choice! Hope all third parties learn from this situation and price their games accordingly.

So, even thought the game is “Console-caliber”, with console-like production values, a console-like campaign, and console-like graphics, it is not deserving of a higher price point because it’s on a portable? This reasoning is asinine and short sighted, but once again, the bitching of the nerds wins over common sense. SMH

“after weeks of effort, we’ve been able to lower the price to $39.99″

Weeks of negotiation, or weeks of compressing the game to make it fit in a regular card? Anyway, 3DS games are a bit over 60 USD here, so we’re still screwed. Not that it’ll stop me from buying good games, but yeah.

I was thinking about passing this up because it was $10 more, but I may have to reconsider.

Chamber it has nothing to do with being a nerd….its about principle. Once one company jacks up the price of their game and blame it on the price of memory all companies will start to follow suit. We the consumers have the power to control prices if we stand up and put our foot down when we see an injustice about to take place in the pricing structure of games. The people spoke out against this and the company listened knowing the sales would be reflected negatively. So if you feel spending an extra ten bucks is warranted by all means take that money and donate it to a good cause.

Sounds like a ploy to get people thinking that $39.99 is a great deal when it’s really just the normal price for a 3DS game.
