Call of Duty flops on Nintendo platforms

Call of Duty: World at War performed fairly well in terms of critical reviews on both the Wii and DS, yet both versions have pretty much sold a dismal amount compared to the 360 and PS3. The 360 version of the game has sold 1.41 units while the PS3 sold roughly 600,000 copies. Disappointingly, only 200,000 units of the game were sold between the Wii and DS. This is slightly surprising since, after all, Activision has been supporting the Wii version in terms of advertising. Commercials of the game seem to appear on television regularly. And let’s not forget that the game has received positive reviews. So the only question is, why haven’t people bought the game?

personally I didn’t see any marketing geared specifically towards the wii version, maybe some information about the multiplayer and co op considering that crap is always so hard to find the details for
and look at the tiger woods ad, they showed the 360 ver in the wii commercial.. so maybe you’re bashing 360 graphics

This game is immersive, with good graphics, sound and gameplay… it’s everything the Wii audience doesn’t want.

If Activision wants Call of Duty to sell on Wii, they need to somehow re-purpose it into a mini-game collection with bland, forgettable gameplay and as little depth as possible.
Then it would sell like hot cakes.

Actually going from the sales estimates ala vgchartz, and the known sales data of CoD 3, the Wii version is doing fine, probably will sale almost as much, or as much as cod 3 in it’s total lifetime sales, I just wish I had solid numbers, right now the long tail arch looks like that of boom blox, a game similarly said to have “flopped”. We’ll see.

Pffft…..big deal. This article doesn’t mention that the PS3 and 360 versions have been out roughly twice as long as the wii version of the game. In Australia, I had to search around to find this game which suggest one of two things. 1.) Its been selling well and stocks are finding it hard to keep up, or 2.) Shops aren’t supporting the game. I think its more to do with 1. Also, the PS3 and 360 live and die with these types of games, they should sell well. I’v got this game on both the wii and ps3. I’ve finished the PS3 version as I got it earlier, now I’m playing the Wii version because funnily enough the controls make it more fun.

Btw I am tired of posting this everywhere. Me and my friend work at two differrent stroes and we both only get about 3-4 copies every shipment for the Wii version whereas we get about 28 copies of Xbox360 and 25 for the PS3 version. And the Wii version sells out faster than the other two. When 4 wi copies are sold maybe two xbox copies are sold. But since there are still 26 copies remaining over the next week and no wii copies thats where XBOX SURPASSES IT. The demand is there the product isn’t.

Oh and btw I own both the copies for wii and 360 and the wii one is wayyy more fun and precise than the 360 even though there’s more content in 360. So don’t stereotype unless you’ve spent a good half hour with the wii evrsion.

I cant ind the damn game. Its everywhere on PS360, yet i cant find any copy of the Wii version anywhere near me. t cant sell well if it cant be found. Anyway, the PS360 already have a solid fanbase for CoD games, remember that little gem called CoD4, yeah, that wasnt on Wii. Once you add up all the details, its doing quite fine indeed.

I bought it for the wii and loved it. The control is sweet. “Girlfriend Mode” rocks too. It’s one of the few games I can get my girl to play along with me. Resi:UC and Galaxy are the other two. Sometimes House of the Dead 2&3.

PS3 plays all my movies in HiDef…and thats about it.

Wii is that gimmick thingy that i use to bait chicks…and thats about it!

i have a wii and a 360, the wii version of the game is just horrible you can only play free for all or team death match nothing else. You cant even play with your freinds unless they have a wii and they are at their house. on the ohter hand on the 360 there are so many more game modes to choose from. I think the guys that made this game for the wii must have spent 30 mins making this game, this game is a joke if you compare it to the 360 and ps3 version. Maybe if the makers of this game made it half as good as the 360 version sells would be alot beter. I first bought the game for wii then returned it after a week im loving the 360 1 tho. only a billion times more effort put into this 1

4 those ppl who cant find cod5 4 wii in shops it more likely that they’ve so out all game shops get cod5 for wii its on the shelf then of in 5 mins so i wood reserve a copy Oh 4 the ppl that say the 360/ps3 has sold more coppies than the wii there wrong wii has sold twice the amount of them put togher thats y activition are struggling to make more coppies goes the same with GH4
