Genius Sonority, makers of The Denpa Men, has teased plans for the coming year.

When asked by Japanese publication 4Gamer about 2014, president Manabu Yamana said that the studio hopes to launch “some software” that is “likely to be quite challenging in its content.”

Yamana’s comments in full:

We are hoping to release some software in 2014. I can’t say a title yet, but it is likely to be quite challenging in its content. Thank you for your time.

Genius Sonority has found a home on the 3DS eShop thanks to three Denpa Men games. Yamana told us in a recent interview that a fourth entry would be possible, but if there were to be one, he “would like to change the game style thoroughly”.

Imageepoch has a new strategy RPG in the works, president Ryohei Mikage has confirmed. Mikage told 4Gamer that the game will tie into the company’s 10th anniversary and will be an “original” title.

Mikage’s comments in full:

“On January 30, 2014, we’ll be releasing Toshin Toshi for Nintendo 3DS. After that, we’ll continue by releasing SoniPro for 3DS, and we also expect to reveal a brand new ‘original SRPG’ as part of Imageepoch’s 10 year anniversary.”

“The original RPG, Luminous Arc, was Imageepoch’s development debut title. We’re just about to hit the turning point of the company’s 10-year anniversary, so we’d like to look back to our roots, and we’re in the middle of zealously developing a high quality SRPG title to offer you guys. Please look forward to Toshin Toshi, SoniPro, and the new original SRPG!”

Despite its hefty “price”, the Luigi’s Mansion figurine has already sold out on Club Nintendo. The reward was only added in about two weeks ago following the latest Nintendo Direct. It’s unclear if the Luigi’s Mansion figurine will be returning to Club Nintendo in the future.

Thanks to Brian M. and Forte-sama for the tip.

In the latest issue of Famitsu, a number of developers shared their resolutions for 2014.

Hideki Kamiya’s was particularly noteworthy. In his resolution, Kamiya stated that “2014 will be the year where a new project will fully be set in motion.”

Here’s his resolution in full:

There’s a lot I hold dear in making games, but I think for developers, having fun is most important. The atmosphere of the workplace shows clearly in a game’s quality, so I want to treasure a team atmosphere where each member can have fun developing games. Also, 2014 will be the year where a new project will fully be set in motion. I want to boldly and happily walk that path without fear of failure.

Elsewhere in Famitsu’s feature, Masahiro Sakurai said: “I resolve to complete development on Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U and release it in 2014.”

At the Chaos Communication Congress conference, hackers demonstrated new functionality that allows for PC streaming to the Wii U GamePad. Technically, this could pave the way for some neat ideas such as video streaming, GameCube support through Dolphin… and perhaps even Steam support.

You can check out a brief demo here at the 47-minute mark. The original Zelda: Wind Waker for GameCube is shown running via Dolphin, directly on the GamePad.

According to Capcom, Resident Evil’s “main user group” is in its late-30s to 40s. The company stated in a feature on its investor relations site that such a userbase poses a bit of a concern, as they could continue to grow older and older, eventually moving on from video games.

To remedy this, Capcom hopes to appeal to younger gamers. And so the company is collaborating with fashion magazines/brands, plus focusing on marketing/promotional activities for non-gmaers. These include a “Halloween Horror Night” event held in conjunction with Universal Studios Japan and the opening of a Resident Evil café in Shibuya, Tokyo.
