Rumors

According to online retailer “Fnac”, Europe will soon see the addition of new “Nintendo Selects” titles. However, it’s not what most would probably expect. Rather than Nintendo titles, it seems that Ubisoft releases will be joining the budget line.

If Fnac is correct, the following games will join “Nintendo Selects” on September 15:

Rayman Raving Rabbids
Rayman Raving Rabbids 2
Rayman TV Party
Rabbids: Mi Caaaasa!
Red Steel
Shaun White Snowboarding
Mi Fitness Coach

We’ll let you know if/when Nintendo confirms this rumor.

Hideo Kojima posted the following image on his Twitter account just a short while ago:

The important part of this photo is the Z.O.E. 3DS (okay, it’s really a backward Z, but I don’t know how to make that character on the computer.) Could Kojima really be bringing a Z.O.E. title to Nintendo’s handheld?

Super Mario 3D Land will be arrive on November 13 and Mario Kart 7 will launch on December 4, if MTV Multiplayer is to be believed. Nintendo has previously announced the release months for both titles, but have yet to provide a specific date. We’ll let you know if Nintendo confirms these dates.

Kotaku is reporting that four more titles will soon be joining the “Nintendo Selects” budget line. The site, citing “retail sources”, claims that Super Paper Mario, Mario Strikers Charged, Punch-Out!! and Super Mario Galaxy will be added to the program later this month. Assuming this is true, the titles will see a new price of $19.99.

Rumor has it that Nintendo of America will reveal the full lineup of games for the 3DS Ambassador program in the near future. The news is expected to be released on or before August 12.

So far, the company has revealed five NES and five GBA titles that will be available for download. For NES, they’ve confirmed Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber and The Legend of Zelda. The GBA offer will include Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ and Mario vs. Donkey Kong. Ten additional titles have yet to be announced.

More details regarding Activision’s plans for Modern Warfare 3 on Nintendo platforms are continuing to trickle out. First, some details about the Wii version…

– Looking to launch the game on the same day as other version
– Not completely confirmed that it’ll arrive on November 8 it is a different platform with different capabilities; still some work to do
– Much of Modern Warfare 3 will fit into the Wii
– May have some differences
– Multiplayer will (obviously) be in the game

Now, here’s something that’s interesting. n-Space is supposedly working on a DS edition of Modern Warfare 3. Yes, DS, not 3DS. It’s a good thing we’ll be seeing Modern Warfare 3 on a Nintendo portable at all, since there were previous reports that n-Space would be taking a break this year.

On Thursday, Nintendo revealed that 3DS owners who connect their system to the eShop by11:59 p.m EDT on Aug. 11 will be eligible to receive ten free NES games and ten free GBA games. So far, they’ve only confirmed that Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ and Mario vs. Donkey Kong will be available as part of the GBA downloads.

Has Nintendo of America outed a couple of additional titles? Here’s an email sent out by a customer service representative:

I have a feeling that the Super Mario Bros. 3 listing is just an error since that was probably mixed up with Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3. However, I’m not quite sure where that Kirby inclusion comes from. It’s also strange to see that Mario vs. Donkey Kong isn’t listed…

Unlike Wii, Wii U will not be compatible with the GameCube in any fashion. That means you won’t be able to play GameCube games or use the console’s accessories.

Is the GameCube truly dead, though? Nintendo of America’s Amber McCollom stated outright that Wii U is capable of downloading titles from the old system through WiiWare:

“You know it’s interesting that you bring up backwards compatibility and Nintendo’s history usually goes back one system. The Wii was compatible with GameCube and Wii U will be compatible with Wii and that’s pretty traditional in launches from Nintendo. …Actually the GameCube discs will not be compatible with Wii U, but a number of the games that were playable on GameCube can be downloaded from WiiWare.”

The fact that “WiiWare” was mentioned already makes me doubt this quite a bit. Plus, I don’t recall Iwata or Miyamoto mentioning this! Did McCollom make a mistake, or does she know something we don’t?

It appears that one developer is already expressing significant concern about the 3DS’ sales situation at the moment. Zoe Mode’s, originally set to be released in September, seems to have been delayed. Studio head Paul Mottram said the following about their game and the 3DS overall:

“…now we’re finding that everyone is not knowing what platform is going to succeed – we did our first 3DS title – we got Crush onto that, but we had to delay the release of that because of the success of the platform.”

The thing that makes this confusing is that, as far as we know, the title is still due out in a couple of months. SEGA hasn’t announced a delay or new release date, but we’ll keep you informed about the situation.

There’s some speculation going around that Nintendo plans to release both Xenoblade and The Last Story in North America. The possibility of Pandora’s Tower also launching stateside is unknown. Apparently localization for Xenoblade is already complete while The Last Story is currently being translated into English.

I’m a bit skeptical of this information, though at least it revitalizes hope once more. However, this does contradict a report from a couple of weeks ago in which Nintendo’s French lead manager said that the Xenoblade didn’t make an apperance at E3 because Nintendo of America wasn’t interested in showing product that they don’t intend to sell.

The story behind the rumor is also somewhat skeptical since it supposedly comes from a trusted source inside Nintendo (that’s not exactly difficult to fabricate!). It’d probably be wise to take this latest speculation with a huge grain of salt for now.
