3DS

Update: A number of folks are speculating that the announcement will be Monster Hunter 3DS. The game was apparently going to be announced at an event on March 13, but was cancelled due to the situation in Japan. Some believe the game will be revealed at Captivate this week, but I’m personally not too sure that will happen…

Yoshinori Ono made an appearance for the launch of the 3DS in Spain and was able to answer a few questions for the press. The Street Fighter producer was once again asked about the possibility of Street Fighter x Tekken coming to the handheld, but only offered the same information that was provided to Eurogamer. So it’s something that Ono would like to see, though nothing is planned at the moment.

Other than that, Ono teased that a big announcement is on the way. It seems likely that the reveal is 3DS related. Perhaps Capcom will share the announcement during Captivate, which will be taking place in less than two weeks.

“They don’t care if it’s a portable edition. When we say we’re going to release a Street Fighter for launch on 3DS, people are going to expect everything that currently exists for Street Fighter regardless of platform. The efforts put into doing that along with Nintendo engineers who have been working on the operation system in the libraries of the dev kit was difficult. It wasn’t a struggle as such, but it was difficult to meet the launch date with everything implemented so perfectly.” – Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono

I imagine that it would be fairly difficult to port an HD console game to a portable and not lose any of the features that came with. Apparently they did a pretty good job of it though! Anyone out there have anything to say about SSFIV3D?

Nintendo UK marketing manager James Honeywell on the 3DS’ killer app…

“I actually think that the killer app is the software that is built into the console. With the AR games, the Mii maker, the quests and the ability to swap Miis, those are the killer apps and people should take the time to have a go on those. I’m sure they’ll be surprised at the level of depth and ingenuity that is already there.”

Honeywell on Mario Kart 3DS’ release date…

“That’s certainly what we’re kind of planning on at the moment (2011 release), but you know, things can always change, and until we actually make a firm announcement about the release dates, obviously it’s good to wait and see what those dates might be.”

Honeywell on a release date for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D…

“I know from personal experience of being on the sampling tours that the game everyone ran to was Zelda, to get their first experience of it in 3D, so we know it’s hotly anticipated, and hopefully we’ll be making an announcement fairly soon so people will be able to find out when they’ll be able to go and get it.”

Satoru Iwata said that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D will be arriving in June. He was most likely referring to the North American release date, but I’m sure that means it’ll launch in Europe around the same time as well.
