3DS

Can you believe how close we are to the 3DS launch? It feels like yesterday when Nintendo made the quiet announcement about their next system, which was later followed by a full blowout at E3. European gamers will finally have an opportunity to purchase the 3DS a week from now, and then the system will be available in North America. Get hyped!

SEGA Announces Captain America and Thor Video Games Will Feature 3D Visuals on Three Platforms

Thor: God of Thunderand Captain America: Super Soldier to Include Stunning 3D Visuals on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo 3DS

SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON – March 17, 2011 –SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced Thor™: God of Thunder and Captain America™: Super Soldier, scheduled for release this spring and summer, will feature eye-popping stereoscopic 3D graphics on the Xbox 360®video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system platforms. Additionally, both games will be coming to the Nintendo 3DS™ system later in the year as an immersive new handheld 3D experience.

“Playing as Captain America with bullets whizzing past in stereoscopic 3D and having a titanic Frost Giant charge straight at you in Thor will bring an unprecedented level of adrenaline to the gameplay experience,” commented Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA of America. “When you combine the triple threat of epic gameplay, hall of fame franchises from Marvel, and outstanding 3D visuals, it’s clear that Thor: God of Thunder and Captain America: Super Soldier comprise a new class of Super Hero game.”

3DS

– Sam believes the reason to buy the game is for the built-in software
– Nintendo arrived at IGN with “Nintengirls” who had 3DS units strapped to them
– Review unit came with a bunch of games
– Different review embargoes
– IGN’s Steel Diver review might be up tomorrow
– No embargoes for the first-party games
– First-party reviews will come first, then third-party stuff will trickle in
– Ubisoft has a launch day embargo
– Super Monkey Ball embargoed until the 25th

This information comes from DreamRift’s co-founder and creative director Peter Ong, who was asked about developing a DS game with the 3DS so close to release. While answering the question, Ong revealed that his company is working on a 3DS project.

“We thought that there was still more ground to be explored on the DS in terms of how its particular hardware can be used to provide a different type of game experience. That, combined with our momentum from our previous experience on the DS, led us to believe that this game needed to be made. We felt that we weren’t done with the DS yet, and also that it wasn’t done with us. Now that we’ve scratched that itch with Monster Tale, we’re very excited about the first top-secret 3DS game we’re working on!

There are a ton of DS owners out there, and it remains to be seen how many will adopt the 3DS upon its launch. Regardless, the 3DS remains backward compatible with DS games, and we think that the DS deserves to have honest efforts at good games even now.”

I don’t know how anyone couldn’t be excited by this news. Some of the DreamRift staff worked on Henry Hatsworth, and the team also recently released Monster Tale for the DS. Both were quite excellent, I must say! So, I’m definitely interested to see what they’re cooking up for the 3DS…

Well, it’s similar to the North American boxart we posted yesterday… but it’s lacking some color! I wonder if this is more of a temporary boxart for Europe. Perhaps they’ll add in the color from the NA cover before the game launches.

You know, I think I can see myself spending a lot of time with the 3DS just with the built-in software alone. Between that an Okami, I don’t think I really need any launch titles! After I’ve finished Chibiterasu’s adventure, I’ll move on to some AR Games…
