Wii U

Nintendo Power has released a public preview of this month’s magazine. Titles featured include New Super Mario Bros. 2, Mighty Switch Force HD, Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why’d you steal our garbage?!, and an article about the classic games from 1987.

The issue arrives on newsstands on June 10 and has already started to reach subscribers.

WayForward will be bringing Mighty Switch Force to the Wii U, Nintendo Power has revealed. The magazine has the first report on the game including screenshots and details.

Mighty Switch Force HD features newly drawn sprites, the already-released free DLC from the 3DS title, and GamePad functionality. Players can experience the entire title on the tablet alone or use it in conjunction with the television to get a larger view of the Hooligan Tracker.

If all goes well, Mighty Switch Force HD will be available for the Wii U’s launch. It could even feature a bit of new content.

And one final nugget from WayForward in general: the studio is currently planning new games for both Wii U and 3DS. These unannounced projects aren’t related to Mighty Switch Force HD.

The last two games from Masahiro Sakurai, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Kid Icarus: Uprising, packed in a ton of content.

Brawl featured a full single-player mode, a number of multiplayer modes/options, an “Event” mode, trophies and stickers to collect, and lots more. Uprising offered a considerable amount as well with its gem crafting, tons of achievements to clear, local and online multiplayer, and AR functionality.

Sakurai’s next game is a brand new Smash Bros. entry for Wii U and 3DS. Although these two titles will likely be crammed with a great deal of things to see and do much like his previous projects, Sakurai doesn’t seem to be concerned about quantity this time around. Instead, he believes “a change of direction may be what’s needed.”

When Nintendo Power asked about the difficulties in making a new Smash Bros. considering the amount of content included in previous games, Sakurai said:

“It isn’t a matter of ‘if the next game has 50 characters, that’ll be enough.’ There is a certain charm to games that have huge casts of playable characters, but they tend to have issues with game balance and it becomes very difficult to fine-tune each character and have them all feel distinctive…. In terms of quantity, we’ve probably already reached the limit of what’s feasible. I think a change of direction may be what’s needed.”

WayFoward founder Voldi Way has opened up on a number of important topics.

In a new interview, Way discussed what else is planned for Shantae (essentially confirming Shantae for Wii U), the future of the “Mighty” series, the possibility of BloodRayne on Wii U, and lots more.

We’ve pulled out some of Way’s quotes for you below. Head past the break for his comments.

Dead or Alive 5 could happen on Wii U based on new comments from director Yohei Shimbori.

Shimbori said that the team is concentrating its efforts on the game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but a Wii U version could happen down the line. It’ll all be decided by player feedback, it seems.

He said:

“Right now, we’re doing our best to get the game ready for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. After players get their hands on Dead or Alive 5 we want to hear what they think and based on that we’ll see if we should make a Wii U version.”
