Wii U

This shouldn’t come as a surprise given the multiplayer nature of Killer Freaks, but it looks like we have a confirmation that Ubisoft’s shooter will include online play.

Senior software engineer Olivier Cado is currently working on the possible Wii U launch title. In his LinkedIn profile, he Cado listed his role as an online/multiplayer programmer.

Surely we’ll receive more details about Killer Freaks during E3 next month.

The Indie Game Magazine reports that Cloudberry Kingdom is in development for Wii U. The game will be released on the console in December, presumably through the console’s equivalent to the 3DS eShop. It’ll also be heading to Steam in September.

You can take a look at Coudberry Kingdom in action in the video above.

What’s this? An actual new, Wii U game announcement? Yes, it’s true!

Ubisoft Quebec is readying “Avengers: Battle for the Earth” for Wii U and Kinect. A domain name for the title was discovered just a few days ago.

Characters such as Captain America, Iron Man, The Hulk, and Thor will be included. Over 20 characters are being added to the game’s roster.

Avengers: Battle for Earth won’t be related to the recent movie. It’s actually based on the “Secret Invasion” comic series.

Tony Key, Ubisoft’s vice president of sales and marketing, said:

“The idea that we’re making a motion-control version of ‘The Avengers’ is a unique proposition if you compare that to superhero games of the past. This is the perfect type of game for that because these characters are very action oriented. They’re always fighting and throwing things.”

Ubisoft hasn’t provided a release date, but it’s expected to ship after the Wii U arrives.

In a blog post detailing Timbletot’s inclusion in Bit.Trip Runner 2, Gaijin Games included one tidbit that we can only assume is a tease for Wii U.

Mike Roush wrote the following to close out his update:

“Wii have a few fun little updates coming for U, so keep your EYES out!!!”

Gaijin Games has hinted at a Wii U version of Bit.Trip Runner 2 many times before. The company may finally be able to announce something for the console during E3, which will take place in less than a month.

Timbletot originally appeared in the first Bit.Trip Runner title as a boss. You can find a two pieces of enemy art here.

Unreal Engine 3 is an obvious lock on Wii U. But Epic Games’ future technology, Unreal Engine 4, is less likely to be supported on the console.

Speaking about the engine, Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney told Gamasutra that the company is “aiming very high, and the intended platforms this is aimed at haven’t even been announced.”

Well, we know that the Wii U was revealed a year ago. Sweeney hasn’t ruled out the Unreal Engine 4 on the system specifically, but his statement makes it seem less likely.

Yet another interview from iDÉAME 2012. n-Space’s Roberto García Lago talks Heroes of Ruin, RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D, what it’s like working with Square Enix, Wii U, and more. There was also an indication that n-Space will make more games for the 3DS if Heroes of Ruin sells well.

There’s a mix of good and bad news to report on regarding The Pinball Arcade.

First, the game isn’t coming to Wii. It’s not going to happen because of technical issues. And let’s face it: at this point, it’d be pointless to bring it to the console.

Developer FarSight Studios was able to confirm a Wii U version, however. The developer hopes to finish the game up “as close to the launch of the platform as possible.”

As was written on Facebook:

“FarSight developed 12 titles for the Wii. Unfortunately, the Wii isn’t powerful enough to run Pinball Arcade. We are very excited about the Wii-U and hope to release as close to the launch of the platform as possible.”

The Pinball Arcade was also being developed for the 3DS, but it’s been placed on the back burner.

FarSight Studios explained:

“We have a plan to get the performance we need out of the 3DS to run the ROM emulation, however some R&D is needed before we know for sure whether it will work. The 3DS version is on hold until we can invest the time and resources into this R&D.”
