Ubisoft reveals more information about Assassin’s Creed III through an all-new video and a series of screenshots. These assets highlight the new hero’s background, including weapons he uses and the different environments he will be in throughout the game.

Set against the backdrop of the American Revolution in the late 18th century, Assassin’s Creed III introduces a new hero, Ratohnhaké:ton, of Native American and English heritage. Adopting the name Connor, he becomes the new voice for justice in the ancient war between the Assassins and Templars. Players become an Assassin in the war for liberty against ruthless tyranny in the most stylized and fluid combat experiences in the franchise to date. Assassin’s Creed III spans the Revolutionary War, taking gamers from the vibrant, untamed frontier to bustling colonial towns and the intense, chaotic battlefields where George Washington’s Continental Army clashed with the imposing British Army.

We’ve been hearing some conflicting reports about the Wii U’s power and visual capabilities over the past few months. However, based on recent comments from Darksiders II game director Marvin Donald, Nintendo’s upcoming console will be very comparable to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Regarding the Wii U version of Darksiders II, Donald said that the team will be taking advantage of the tablet controller. But they won’t be “uprezzing” the game, and the resolution, textures, polycounts and similar things of that nature will remain the same.

Speaking about the hardware behind Wii U, Donald noted that it has “been on par with what we have with the current generation’s”.

Donald said:

“Uh, so far, so good. We have limitations based on Nintendo’s progress, but, you know, that really has, the only problem that’s been for us is, you know, not having an actual release date. But once we know when the Wii U has, when Nintendo has commited to a firm date, you know, we will be able to commit to a date for Darksiders II, but we’re planning on it being a launch title, and so far everything’s been smooth sailing.

“We got the game running on their hardware pretty quickly, and the controller’s been great to work with, now it’s just down to deciding what we really want to do to make it a unique experience on the Wii U. You know, taking advantage of you know the extra screen and the touch capability and all that. So, you know, so we’ll have a few new feature for sure, but I think visually, for the most part, it’ll be pretty much the same.

“You know, so far the hardware’s been on par with what we have with the current generation’s. Based on what I understand, the, you know, the resolution and textures and polycounts and all that stuff, we’re not going to being doing anything to uprez the game, but we’ll take advantage of the controller for sure.”

I’m generally very careful with regards to posting update when we don’t know about a specific project coming to a Nintendo platform. In this case, though, there have been comments from Gaijin Games implying a Wii U version of Bit.Trip Runner 2 would be possible. Given how much support Gaijin has provided on Nintendo systems, I truly believe that there’s a strong chance of the title arriving on Nintendo’s new console.

A bunch of new screenshots and artwork pieces of Assassin’s Creed III have been released. Or leaked. Either way, they look quite good.

In addition to the new images, you can find several details about the game below.

– New enemy types include agile Native American foes and burly Scottish men
– Plot covers 35 years of Connor’s life
– Connor is looking to save his people and give them a place in the future of America
– New feature: stalking zones
– With stalking zones, Connor can slink into bushes and move through the foliage; the players can move around a target and go in for the kill
– Snow patrol (mostly redcoats) in carriages throughout the frontier
– Snow, rain, and fog conditions
– Enemies will carry axes
– Combat has seen a complete overhaul
– Players can assign weapons in each hand and alternate with the X/Y buttons
– New Chinese-inspired weapon: rope dart
– With this weapon, you can string your enemies up like poultry
– Simplified controls for free running
– Play 30% of the missions in the frontier
– Frenchman Lafayette is in the game
– Citizens have individual roles and routines in the cities
– 3:1 is the scale of Boston compared to the real city
– Narrative scope is 20% larger than Assassin’s Creed 2
– Percentage of spoken characters in the game based on real historical people is 80%
– “Assassin’s Creed 3 is all but to renew your faith in the series.”

Ubisoft’s Your Shape fitness series is likely coming to Wii U. Mark the game down on your wishlists now!

A listing was found on the website of music licensor The Royalty Network, but it was removed several hours ago. It seems as though Cascada’s “Evacuate The Dance Floor” will be included in the title.

Ubisoft declined to comment on the Your Shape Wii U discovery.

At last year’s E3, THQ’s Danny Bilson was featured in a Wii U video, and noted that the company was planning on bringing the game to the console at launch.

It doesn’t look like anything has changed since then.

In an interview with Digital Spy, lead designer Hayden Dalton said that Darksiders II will be a launch title for Wii U. A small team is currently working on that version. The controller will be used in a “unique way”.

Dalton said:

“That’s been very interesting to see what those guys are doing, and they’re making efforts to make sure we do use it in more than a slapdash way. It’s basically the core game, but then with added abilities to do certain things that you can’t do on the other consoles.”

Dalton also mentioned that the version Vigil Games had prepared for last year’s E3 allowed players to change equipment in real-time:

“One of the things that we did, when we were originally going to show it off, was that you could equip stuff directly. So, for instance, I could be running along and I could click on another piece and I could put it on as I’m running through the game. That’s huge, it’s not breaking up the game in a way, I’m not going into a menu and assigning it, I’m literally just tapping as I’m playing. We’re not basically heavily changing the core game to support the control system, but the control system will be an enhancement of the core game.”
