Wii U

I came really, really close to not posting this since I personally don’t believe it’s happening, but I thought I might as well add it here for the sake of completion. And yes, the source is from the same website that leaked the NGP specs (we’ve told you about that before). I’m still having trouble believing the following, though…

– Rockstar has a dev kit
– Company is making GTA V, won’t be a Wii 2-exclusive
– Rockstar would like to have the game ready for launch
– Late 2012 launch
– Tech demos and some games will be shown at E3 in June

As always, you should take these rumors with a huge grain of salt. Hopefully we’ll get clarification on a few things if Nintendo says anything about the console at their investor’s meeting next week.

Good ol’ Twitter is always the host of teases these days, and Project Café is no exception. Here’s a summary of what Nintendo Life has had to say about the new hardware:

“All we can say so far is: don’t believe everything you read online. Other than from us, of course. May hear solid details next week…”

In addition, they basically seem to discredit the name ‘Project Café’ and say that it would be stupid for Nintendo to have a touch screen on their controller. Or perhaps they’re hinting that the DS will be the controller. I don’t even know anymore…

“Nintendo is a Japanese company. Why would a secret project have a French name?”

“Nintendo has sold more handheld consoles than anyone. Why have a controller with a screen in? Why not use DS?”

After one of their tweety bird followers asked them how significant the details they knew were, all Nintendo Life had to say was this:

“Significant enough that we can’t reveal what they are.”

And lastly, look at this conversation between their tweety bird and some tweety bird follower of theirs:

Looking for more news about Project Café? Well, we may just have the answer for you. Next week is Nintendo’s annual investor’s meeting, and pretty much every year we get new information out of it, so I would be surprised if there wasn’t at least a mention of this “Project Café” nonsense that everyone is all hot and bothered about.

Watch out for it on April 25th!

Tons of Wii 2 mockup images

Posted on 6 years ago by (@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 0 comments | 0 Likes

It’s funny how, just a week ago, you would have been ridiculed if you said that Nintendo’s next console is codenamed “Project Café.” But that’s where we’re at right now. In just four days, a ton of Wii 2 rumors surfaced thanks to just one report from Game Informer. Speculation about the console’s specs, controller, and other features have been “leaked” thanks to anonymous sources. Some reports have looked more valid than others, though the common consensus at the moment seems to be that the system’s controller will feature a screen of its own and may have the ability to stream content.

With that information in mind, fans have created their own concept images of what they believe the Wii 2 will look like. Most of the images above focus only on the controller – which, thus far, is one of the more intriguing aspects about the system. You can check out the complete set of mockup photos in the gallery above.

It’s almost 10:45 AM here, and we’re already up to three “Wii 2/Wii HD” stories. Anyone want to take a guess as to how many we’ll finish with by the end of today? Anyway, on to the matter at hand…

01Net has posted another batch of Wii successor rumors. Again, these are the folks that leaked specs for the NGP. That doesn’t mean that the content below is true, of course.

– Codenamed “Project Café”
– E3 2011 reveal
– Architecture is very similar to the Xbox 360
– Café is a bit more powerful than the 360
– Easy to port Xbox 360 games
– Retro-compatible with GameCube and Wii games
– Should support all Wii peripherals
– Specs: CPU is custom IBM PowerPC with three cores, GPU should be an ATI from the R700 family, with a shader unit at version 4.1, RAM should be at least 512 Mb
– Controller is a touch tablet, moderate graphic output (sub-HD, not like an iPad)
– Controller specs: 6-inch screen, single touch, front camera, acts as a Wii sensor bar, d-pad, two bumpers, two triggers, possibly more
– June 2012 release in Japan, Holiday 2012 release in the West
– Another big surprise for the console that can’t be discussed yet

Wii successor rumors: EDGE edition

Posted on 6 years ago by (@NE_Brian) in Rumors, Wii U | 0 comments | 0 Likes

The following information comes from EDGE. Like every other rumor we’ve posted on the site thus far, be circumspect of the speculation…

– Ubisoft, Activision, EA are among the third-parties working on the console
– These studios have had development units for months
– System retains motion controls
– Its capabilities are “better than Move”
– Unclear if a camera is involved with the console’s motion abilities

Talk around the web suggests, unsurprisingly, that the controller for Nintendo’s next console will be very original. CVG’s sources believe it will feature an HD screen. Now IGN has offered a rumor of their own, saying that the controller even has touch capability.

“A report from CVG states the new Nintendo console will use an all-new controller – not an updated Wii controller – with sources saying it will have a built-in screen. Additional sources informed IGN the screen has touch capability.”

You really have to wonder how much of what we’ve been hearing is true, and what aspects are false. It’s a shame that E3 is so far away…

Source

This information comes from an anonymous source speaking to CVG…

“Nintendo’s plans sound unreal. Publishers are already planning launch titles and it’s all very exciting. The hardware is even more powerful than current HD consoles and backwards compatible with Wii. The controller will be all-new and has a HD screen on it.”

Another rumor comes from Blu-ray.com, which claims that Nintendo is looking into Blu-ray as the console’s main optical drive. This is just one of many, many rumors we’ve heard about in the past few hours. Expect even more speculation as we come closer to E3.

This information comes from Sterne Agee’s Arvind Bhatia…

“We are hearing the same thing [about a new Nintendo console] from our channel checks. I think Nintendo has to upgrade this Christmas, given how weak Wii sales have been. Launching this year means they will be able to protect their market share. Sony and Microsoft will probably still wait until 2013 to launch their next consoles.”

This information comes from EEDAR’s Jesse Divnich…

“Nintendo originally announced the Wii at E3 in 2005, nearly 18 months before its official launch. It wouldn’t be out of the question for Nintendo to announce some top-line specs on its new hardware. In terms of what does this mean for Nintendo? Unfortunately, not enough information exists to warrant any type of speculation, but rest assured Nintendo will continue to dedicate themselves to creating original hardware and software.”

This information comes from DFC Intelligence’s David Cole…

“In our forecasts for the industry we have a new console system from Nintendo launching second half of 2012. However, when it will be announced is another question. E3 could be a possibility but you also have to consider Nintendo’s home turf is Japan and they may be more comfortable at a venue like TGS. Our new forecasts come out next month…if Nintendo announces a Wii 2 launch for 2011 we will have to go back to the drawing board real quick. We think the Wii is on the downward cycle of its life and sales will naturally decline every year. However, we still see Wii as the number one selling system in 2011. It will not be until 2012 that DFC forecasts Xbox 360 and PS3 sales will exceed Wii. As for Wii 2 we see it being a fairly successful system as consumers are really craving new hardware and Microsoft and Sony show no signs of delivering. We think it will be a strong seller but not nearly as strong as the Wii.”

I really can’t believe how quickly all of this has developed. Game Informer’s article really sparked a ton of rumors and reports about Nintendo’s next console.

Source

Game Informer’s news post regarding the next Nintendo console has sparked a ton of buzz. But the article contained a number of uncertainties, such as the system’s graphical capabilities. While everything is still unconfirmed, many additional articles around the web indicate that the power of “Wii HD” (let’s just call it that for now) will indeed surpass the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360:

“Furthermore, we’ve heard that the machine will be more powerful than current-gen systems, meaning Nintendo, currently backing a Wii that is weaker in horsepower than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, will be showing a new console that is more powerful than those current competitors.” – Kotaku article

“Our sources have said the the console is significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and that Nintendo’s intent is to recapture the hardcore market.” – IGN article

IGN’s article contains other interesting nuggets. Apparently the company will distribute a press release this month – confirming the rumors – and will fully unveil the console in June. IGN also notes that the console will be backwards compatible with the Wii and will support 1080p resolutions.

Moving on, there is quite an interesting article on 01Net. The site’s source leaked NGP specs prior to the handheld’s reveal, which gives the publication some credibility. Like IGN and Kotaku, 01Net has also discussed the Wii HD’s power, noting that it is on par with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Even more interesting, however, is that the system will feature a “very original” controller – and it doesn’t sound like it will be similar to the Wii remote or Kinect. 01Net additionally believes an announcement will come at E3.

Last but not least, the E3 Twitter account has posted a very interesting message on their Twitter account. Make of it what you will…

“Could it be? Tune in June 7th and see…. http://fb.me/G77gvduy”

I doubt that they truly know what Nintendo has in store… but you never know!
