Rumors

Nintendo of America will be holding a press conference in New York City this Thursday to reveal various Wii U launch details. It doesn’t sound like a media event is planned for Europe, but there could be a Nintendo Direct.

Nintendo’s Spanish division has supposedly confirmed that the broadcast will be streamed at 4 PM. NOE president Satoru Shibata may be hosting the presentation.

Gamereactor has strangely pulled its original article confirming the news. I’m not sure if that means some information slipped out a bit early, or if the entire story is fake. We’ll try to find out.

Capcom may be turning its Monster Hunter franchise into a full-fledged film.

Speaking with Cinema Today, Resident Evil Retribution producer Paul W.S. Anderson revealed that a movie conversion is in the works. The news came about when Anderson was asked about another game that he’d like to transform into a movie.

Anderson stated:

“Recently, I’ve been loving Monster Hunter! A film conversion is currently in planning.”

Capcom hasn’t officially announced a Monster Hunter movie at this time. It’s also unknown if Anderson would be directly involved with the film.

Well, I’d say that this rumor makes a fair amount of sense! I don’t know anything about the techno-jargen, but it seems that the bottom line is that Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land are headed to the 3DS eShop as downloadable titles. Of course this is just a rumor for now, but it’s one that I’d say has a fair bit of clout given the online strategy Nintendo is pursuing.

For those interested, here’s the forum post that the rumor stems from:

—————————————–

Well I was running my weekly scan of Nintendo’s CDN (the server where Nintendo hosts eShop Titles), and the EUR version of Mario Kart 7’s title ID was added, sometime between now and last thursday.

You might call me wrong, but if you look at the TMD, it says the title has a manual and DLP Child, just like Mario Kart 7. And the NCCH files on CDN are very close to the size of the NCCH files from the EUR version of the ROM:

Executable NCCH: CDN/ROM = 609/611mb
Manual NCCH: CDN/ROM = 2.69/2.52mb
Dlp Child Container NCCH: CDN/ROM = 26.5/26.5mb

—————————————–

You can actually investigate the truthiness of this claim by downloading the “TMD” yourself.

When you think about G4, a few things may come to mind – X-Play, Attack of the Show, American Ninja Warrior, and… lots of old Cops reruns.

Early next year though, the network could be receiving a reboot along with a name change.

Variety is reporting that NBCUniversal, the parent company of G4, will rebrand the channel entirely. Video games would apparently still be featured, but the network would offer a more upscale and stylish format. The goal would be to entire the “modern male”. G4 would also look to go “in a direction reminiscent of GQ”.

Capcom published its annual report recently, and it contains a tidbit about Wii U.

A quote from CEO and chairman Kenzo Tsujimoto has been received quite a bit of attention for his remark about the hardware.

I won’t beat around the bush – take a look at the quote below:

“As for the outlook for the next fiscal year, although Nintendo will release the new game console Wii U and the market will be continue to be invigorated by the increase of DLC, time is required before the next generation console cycle begins in earnest.”

It is interesting that Capcom isn’t lumping the Wii U together with other next-gen consoles. Does the company consider it to be a current-gen system?

I’m not actually sure if Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney is covered in the latest Famitsu. However, it does have a substantial ad in this week’s magazine.

You might be wondering why this is important. After solving the ad’s puzzle, one early “Famitsu-getter” believes that the game could release on November 29. That isn’t set in stone just yet though, and we may have to wait just a short while for confirmation.

As far as we know, Dragon Quest X will be the only Wii U game to be having a presence at the Tokyo Game Show. Then again, maybe Namco Bandai has something in store.

Japanese blogs have picked up on an interesting discovery on Namco Bandai’s TGS site. The Wii’s file icon is hosted on the company’s server here. After someone added a “u” to the end of that filename, a Wii U icon popped up – view it here.

Namco Bandai does have a couple of games announced for Wii U: Tank! Tank! Tank! and Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Tank! Tank! Tank! has been brought to a variety of trade shows, but the Wii U version of Tekken has not been playable thus far.

Perhaps one of these titles will be a late addition to Namco Bandai’s huge TGS lineup? Maybe they’ll announce something brand new for Wii U – there are more games that have yet to be confirmed? Or perhaps we’ll see nothing at all.  There should be a concrete answer very soon.

Amazon is listing an Epic Mickey dual pack for release in France. It would contain two games: the original Epic Mickey and Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two.

Disney hasn’t officially confirmed this product for France or any other territory. If it does come out, it’ll be available on November 19.

An unannounced medieval RPG could be heading to the Wii U. The console is mentioned in a French job posting.

Take a look at this rough translation:

  • Unannounced big budget (multi million dollar/euro) Fantasy Medieval Role-Playing is in the works.
  • The game is for PC / Mac / console.   It is currently in pre-production.
  • The job listing mentions “innovative peripherals (including Wii U)”.  Wii U is the only console mentioned on the job listing.
  • IS is a company being created based in Montreuil, Paris (France).
  • The team is mainly composed of veterans of the gaming industry and has an internationally recognized expertise in the field.
  • Job listing says details will be announced to the press, between October and December 2012.
  • Offers Pre-employment training : Only one student per class maximum.

Another posting was discovered on DeviantArt, and it sounds very much like the first one:

“We’re currently looking for freelances high poly 3D artists.
The project is a video game, an heroic fantasy RPG with higly detailled armors (~500 000 polys per character).  It’s not for real time, rather for rendering, 3D printing and other things of the same kind.

It’s a big project with a big budget (several millions dollars), but also with a lot of work.  Compensation will depend on quality and percentage of completion, from hundreds to thousands of dollars per character.“

Marc Kruzic appears to be behind this unannounced title as the game’s creator. He’s a project manager at Earthlings Games, and was involved with EA and Chillingo for a number of interactive storytelling children games for the iPad/iPhone/Android.

According to the latest issue of Nintendo Power, Mass Effect 3 will run in 1080p on Wii U. The new version would mark the first time that the game is capable of producing that resolution on consoles.

EA nor developer Straight Right have officially confirmed this information. It should also be noted that the first round of screenshots have been sent in 720p.
