IGN has confirmed that EA will have Wii U news to present at its Summer Showcase tomorrow.

Executive editor Rich George tweeted that there will be “some” updates for Nintendo’s new console during the event.

George wrote:

“Want to know more about EA’s Wii U plans? We’ll be live streaming their Summer Showcase presentation tomorrow. August 2 1-2pm PT. Be there. …(EA Summer Showcase is not just limited to Wii U, but there will be some related news in there.)”

Chances are we’ll be getting a look at FIFA 13 on Wii U. EA may also show Mass Effect 3 running on the system.

EA producer Matt Prior says that the Wii U is “on par with the 360 and PS3”. When FIFA 13 comes to Wii U, however, it’ll feature “some key graphical improvements”.

Prior said:

“It’s on a par with 360 and PS3 and we were even able to make some key graphical improvements. We focused on areas that would have the most impact on the game.”

The WWE franchise won’t be coming to Wii U this year. Creative director Cory Ledesma gave a simple “no” when asked if WWE ’13 is in development for Nintendo’s new console.

While that is disappointing for wrestling fans, we at least know that WWE ’13 is on its way to the Wii. It’ll be released alongside the PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 versions on October 30.

Other than Mass Effect 3 and sports promises, EA doesn’t have too much in store for Wii U – well, as far as we know. But EA chief operating officer Peter Moore, speaking during the company’s first quarter earnings call today, said “We’re keeping a very close eye on the platform.”

Regarding the partially “lackluster response” coming out of E3, Moore stated that EA now understands to “never underestimate Nintendo, as proven by the last generation.”

Moore wasn’t ready to announce anything new for Wii U today. Having said that, he believes that EA has “great franchises poised to be on that platform. He added, “We’ll probably announce more in the future.”

AckkStudios is currently working on the indie title “Two Brothers” for PC. It’s an “Action/Adventure/Role-playing/Nostalgia” title with Game Boy-like visuals, which would make it a good fit on something on the eShop.

But rather than bringing the game over to the 3DS or Wii U, creator Brian Allanson has said that he’d rather develop an original project for a Nintendo console. He wouldn’t rule out the possibility of a port though.

According to Allanson:

“I would never rule out the possibilities of porting the game to a Nintendo console, but I think I would rather create another game designed for those systems strengths.”
