    Surprisingly low for Metroid?

  • Kyle K. Moore

Ouch, harsh on Metroid and Star Fox. But Odyssey with the 20th 10/10 in EDGE’s history!

  • Princess_Eevee9

Funny. Giving Super Mario Odyssey best scoring yet threw Metroid and Star Fox 2 under the bus. Yet another Car Simulator and the Shooter not staring a strong female protagonist nails higher scores? Yeah Edge is obviously American based. But really these scores are crap.

    • Radish

I agree that those scores are off-base (though Star Fox 2 wasn’t deserving a high score imo), but not sure what “a strong female protagonist” has to do with it.

      • Princess_Eevee9

I wanted to say something stupid. Why? I don’t know?

    • Lance Devon

There is a reason SF2 was never released before.

      • Princess_Eevee9

The reason was it wasn’t done and not a priority?

      • Nowhere Man

The reason had nothing to do with quality and everything to do with the release date of the N64. They didn’t want to release a new 3D game when new hardware would make it look bad, so they went to SF64. EDGE reviewed a 20-year old game in 2017. It deserves a low score because it has aged horribly (so has Star Fox, which is even more stale). It’s really as simple as that.

        • MagcargoMan

Star Fox 64 wasn’t gonna be out for almost two years after Star Fox 2’s release. Larry Bundy Jr. explained the real reason in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9GpCCZ6NAE

          • Nowhere Man

I’ve seen that video, and Star Fox 64’s release date wasn’t my point. They’ve said themselves that new hardware could do 3D much better, so releasing Star Fox 2 would have been releasing a graphically outdated game from day 1. What Miyamoto did from there doesn’t change why it was canceled.

          • MagcargoMan

They didn’t want the Star Fox game being developed by Nintendo to be shown up by one not being done by Nintendo and on inferior hardware at that. Plain and simple.

          • Nowhere Man

Speculation as fact. Love it. Nintendo’s own explanation is 100% more plausible. Saturn and PS1 were out and the SNES was done.

          • MagcargoMan

Yeah, because companies would never lie about what goes on behind the scenes, right?

          • Nowhere Man

When did I say that? Whether they’re lying or not doesn’t change the fact you’re basing your argument entirely off of speculation. No more straw men, please.

    • Blake Good

      Edge stands for:

      Elusive
      Douchebag
      Gaming
      Emos

      • Blake Good

Stop it! You are making autistic people like me look bad!

        • Addy

Good job, you’re making yourself look even worse.

          • Blake Good

No i am not. This imposter won’t stop impersonating me on here!

    • AJK

What the heck does the ‘gender’ of a bunch of pixels or polygons have to do with how a game plays?

    • Graham Luedtke

They’re actually British. Besides the same person didn’t review every game.

      • Princess_Eevee9

Makes this even worse yet I am still not surprised.

    • DiscoGentleman

      Isn’t Edge UK-based?
Also, not sure why you had to be vaguely jingoist.

    • Game_God

Edge is actually British & always has been. While I do agree with your surprise concerning Metroid’s score (it deserved at least an 8) & I do find some of their review scores rather bizarre on occasions, as a whole Edge is one the best if not the best videogame mag you can find & I view their reviews as more trustworthy than any other outlet… but they are definitly wrong about Metroid ๐Ÿ˜‰

      • Princess_Eevee9

They’re better than Famitsu but hah they’re reviews are nowhere near as cool to good. They’re heavily biased and give that outta new burned good reviews. And I was kidding about them being American that was a joke but it died.

        • Game_God

OK, sorry I didn’t get the joke! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • JasonBall

Wow, this is amazing to think about the implications.

  • JasonBall

Btw here is their 18 perfects before March. Zelda was 19th, this is 20th. I grabbed it from a user I can’t remember back in March.

    • Toni

looks super main-stream, don’t see how their reviews are more reliable than others, or why do people make such a big deal about their reviews

      • JasonBall

They aren’t, they’re quite less reliable actually, quite in favor of American games. That’s why when Nintendo gets a 10 it’s huge.

        • Toni

          I see, thanks for that

        • Constantinos Lapiotis

They are not less reliable. It’s exactly the opposite. They are strict on their reviews and well respected.

    • MagcargoMan

Skyward Sword got a 10/10? Lol.

      • Aline Piroutek

The game is very fun to play, not a masterpiece like Shadows of Valentia but still a great game.

        • MagcargoMan

If it’s not a masterpiece then it doesn’t deserve a ten out of ten then.

          • Aline Piroutek

            So 9.9/10

      • JasonBall

It deserves it imo. Say what you will.

  • hi v3.0

Great for Mario but 6 for Samus Returns is pretty low..

  • Blake Good

    6/10 – Stupid CoD fanboys!!

    • ChuckyGuy98

I’m guessing your mother still hasn’t brought you your tampons yet?

  • R.Z.

That’s about what I was expecting of Samus Returns after having played Mirror of Shadows, and before everyone started praising it to the sky.

I should try it myself someday … unbox the thing.
I hope my busted A button won’t make it unplayable if I end up doing so.

    • FutureFox

      Haha, “Mirror of Shadows”

      • R.Z.

I got it a bit mixed up.
        ๐Ÿ˜›

        • FutureFox

Nah, you got it exactly right. : )

    • Carlos

I haven’t finshed Seamus Returns yet, but it’s way better than Mirror of Fate.

      • Aline Piroutek

I finished and it way way cooler to play than Mirror of Fate.

  • masterjedi

I’m sad to see that about Samus Returns because in my mind a 6/10 is a poor game. When I see a score like that I think of a game that is playable, but not really fun or maybe fun but with really poor controls or maybe really bad performance. A 6/10 says to me that the game has potential but that potential was largely unrealized. I’ve watched a few video reviews on Samus Returns and they’ve been mostly positive so there’s that. But yea, I wish the score for Samus was better.

    • Addy

That’s just one person’s opinion. Also what is it with people thinking that anything below 7/10 is considered bad?

      • masterjedi

Iโ€™ve just always used the percentage scale. 6/10 is 60%. In most schools I grew up in thatโ€™s a D. Not a failure, but definitely not good in my opinion.

    • Aline Piroutek

According to EDGE: Mighty No.9 = Samus Returns

  • ben

To think sony fanboys actually believed that Horizon 100% snore would even be a contender for game of the year..

    • Sinton

It will. It won’t win, though.

      • ben

It is the only default first party sony game. Of course it will be nominated.

        • Sinton

          Did you play it?

    • Dyinglight

      Horizon is snore?
Actually it is Stinky breath of the wild that is a true snorefest, moron.
Nintendrones always amuse me with their uncanny shilling abilities.

  • Tlink7

Metroid is not a 6… even if you don’t like the genre, it is a solid title.

  • Addy

“Wahh! An irrelevant video game magazine gave Metroid Samus Returns a 6 and Star Fox 2 a 5, yet Super Mario Odyssey got a perfect 10 but I’m going to ignore that and focus on how two other Nintendo games were given average scores! Boo-hoo-hoo!”

Okay, three words: Get. Over. It.

Whenever a Nintendo game gets a review score of anything lower then a 7, you all drop a dump in your Depends and throw a tantrum. How pathetic.

    • Blake Good

No! People need to agree with me because they would be more grateful for my taste if they lived in North Korea!

      • Addy

Buddy, the world does not revolve you. Also on what you just said could get you in trouble. Remember what happened when you said those who didn’t like a movie that you did like should be beheaded? That same thing could happen again. But you don’t learn lessons. You’re incapable of learning if you’re still getting angry about what you and others love or hate. If you cannot understand that, then I suggest you get off of the internet until you start to learn and act like a civilized adult.

        • Blake Good

ST*U. People don’t understand that because of my autism that people need to agree with me or else they deserve to be handed over to ISIS. Ugh! People like you are the reason why this world would be better if we have a yearly purge

  • That six for Metroid doesn’t tell me anything. If anyone could provide a scan of the actual review, that’d be insightful. This isn’t. Samus Returns has its fair share of things worth criticising, but I doubt it’s worth this score. Either way, it’s a splash in a sea of praise, people should stop freaking out about it.

  • Peter

I guess the guys playing Metroid here kept getting lost and the Metroids drained the life out of them in the end because they weren’t a good enough Bounty Hunter.
